When was it deleted? Thought it had only just been released?

I have just found out over at www.DVDDebate.com:

Some bad news for those of you who haven't yet picked up a copy of the Beeb's I’m Alan Partridge DVD. After some retailers claimed that the disc has been deleted already after only scant weeks on sale, we contacted the Beeb who had the following to say:

“BBC Worldwide is committed to producing only the very best quality products. Our range of DVD releases have set the standard in re-mastering and added value in the television market,” said Stuart Snaith, Director of Video and Sponsorship.

“Since the release of the ‘I’m Alan Partridge’ DVD, we have regrettably encountered a problem with clearances on this disc and have subsequently recalled this product. An enhanced version of the DVD will be released next year.”

Now, what this actually means is unclear. There's some speculation that audio rights could be the issue here, others suggest that the producers of the show were less than happy with the bare bones release. Whatever the answer, it's clear that the disc has been recalled and that something new is planned for release later next year. We'll update you on the situation as and when we hear more.

well if theres gonna be a new release next year, it will obviously be better than this one...maybe a rerelease when Knowing Me, Knowing You will be released..

can't see the problem myself..

I'm very glad I've got my copy, even if they do bring out a better release next year. Replacing my threadbare VHS copy was a big priority this year. Hopefully they'll also release The Paul & Pauline Calf Video Diaries.

What a bag of arse, I ordered from Play at £11.99 it eventually arrived as a shaker and a bloody great hole in the rear celophane/sleeve, so off it went back to them, I guess this explains why I'm still waiting for the replacement....... :(

Some weeks ago, I tried to get this from Play and was told that it was 'deleted', so thought that I should get a copy urgently.

I found that Amazon had it, so I ordered it.. I have to say that its brilliant as it gets better every time I watch it..

But one of the episodes skips.. Last night I noticed a mark on the back of the disk, which looked like a sticky mark..

But I couldn't get it off as it seems to be a scratch instead!

So, I decided to send it back.

Last night I wrote a letter, packaged it up and poped it into the post at work.

Then today I read this thread...

I quickly dashed up to the mail room and spent 10 minutes pulling the mail bag appart.. To my relief, It was still there...

Although I want a perfect copy, I would rather have the scratched one I have rather than nothing at all...

I am on the phone right now to Amazon to see what can be done and they have confirmed that it has been deleted!

So, I am now stuck with a scratched copy... I will have to take a trip to WHSmiths, just incase they have it.. Other than that, its out with the toothpaste to see if I can get the scratch out...

How?!! It said it is deleted as of yesterday.

For those of you with Britannia account it is still avialable to order on their site. It is £19.99+p&p but it seems like a good choice for one of those 6 mandatory purchases.

Hopefully they'll have it in stock

I expect some shop/online stores will have some residue stock left over.

I was just reading this thred again and noticed that the disc has actually been recalled which means any remaining stocks should have been withdrawn from sale. I assume they failed to clear some of the music so we might get some radical alteration when it re-released.

Hopefully Britannia will prove again how poor they are and deliver it because the recall notice hasn't reached their warehouse yet :D

Going to keep hold of my copy.

We could find that the new version has actually been edited, and it wouldn't do to have the programme altered from it's original version.

We might miss such comic moments as Partridge singing along to "Jet" by Wings or introducing some of his records... "Kommen sie here und listen to Kraftwerk!"

I'm definately keeping my copy and now that it's going to be something of a rarity I'm gonna try and get the cover signed by the man himself.

I've got TCM signed by Gunnar Hansen which I'm immensely proud of.

Coogan’s next project is the resurrection of Partridge so I’d imagine we see the re-released disc around the time that airs.

Can the BBC ever get anything right?

Although Partridge is king and I have the DVD (courtesy of Amazon) I would like to know what will happen to us loyal customers who rushed out to buy it straight away. Its a bit inconsiderate to recall it and say that a new enhanced version is to be released next year. I can't see that theres anything wrong with it ( and I've watched it a few times already) so why the big Recall????

I hope they do re-release I'm Alan Partridge as a special edition disc, even though I already have the VHS boxset and now this DVD (£11.99 from Play when I bought it, as well :D).

It was annoying on the Father Ted commentary when the writer said he's looking forward to the Alan Partridge DVD to see if they comment on his performance in the commentary, and knowing that there's not one on there.

For them to offer any kind of restitution (we should be allowed to swap the current disc for the new one when released - you know that’s how they’d handle it in the States) to early buyers would infer that they care about their customers, and......well, that’s just not true is it?

“Since the release of the ‘I’m Alan Partridge’ DVD, we have regrettably encountered a problem with clearances on this disc and have subsequently recalled this product. An enhanced version of the DVD will be released next year, which knowing the usual crap we put out will probably just be a repackaged version in a new box. As a matter of fact. I’ve got one here, there we go, they’re available in the BBC shop or at reception, priced 19.99. Twenty pounds, the penny’s just… price… rhetoric… Some of the boxes are a bit faded, but I was made promises about storage that were not kept. So, erm, that’s all from me, thankyouverymuch, goodbye. Sorry, gotta go.

What a nightmare!!

I got mine but the guy who sits next to me at work did not as play refused his credit card (he had it on pre-order for ages) there was nothing wrong with his card, he tried for 2 weeks to ring them but could never get through, they ignored his e-mails (as per normal), when he finally got through on the phone (last week) they sorted the credit card problem, but now it's sitting in the waiting for stock stage.

This guy is a massive Alan Partridge fan and when I read this thread out to him today he was none to happy!!

Had this on pre order with Play247 since Oct 2nd!

As usual, play never bother to contact you that they have even revieved your order, let alone that it has been deleted.

Between it's release on the 8th and subsequent deletion on teh 16th I have actually picked the bloody thing up at WHSmith and Virgin and checked it out, but did not buy as of course 'it was on order with play!'. and it's now deleted, and I have not received it, and my Play account still says 'on order', but they cannot get it anymore. ARSE.

I wish I'd bought it when I had it in my hands!

All of you lot who have got it are very lucky, enjoy it!
Anyone who knows where I can get a copy will surely go to heaven.

I contacted the BBC and got this reply....

..........................................

Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately the below mentioned DVD has now been withdrawn from circulation due to rights issues which have now arisen.

I apologise for any disappointment this may have caused.

Kind Regards

I got mine from Play on the day of release, had it pre-ordered for about a month. Just finished watching it last night.

So, it's been recalled because if problems with clearances - fair enough - the BBC haven't really got much choice there...

It's obviously gonna take time to sort things out, maybe some background music has got to be changed or something, and their saying that while they're doing that they might add some other stuff too...

..so are some people saying they shouldn't enhance the content?

jonathan.e
08-11-2001, 10:52
No Andy, we’re saying that they should make some kind of trade-in allowance for those who have bought this (un-enhanced) current release.

Too ******' right my friend, this is probably an even bigger release than Partridge for me.

Also i hope they restore the 'Centrefold' scene that was removed from the VHS edition.

Called DVD Popcorn to see if they had any in stock and they don't so they are refunding my money. They didn't know that it had been deleted.

I emailed Play247 last Wednesday about this, they still haven't replied. They are not really impressing me at the moment, no email acknowledgement of orders when made, no notification if things are unavailable, and no reply's to emails (after 5 days!) regarding pre-orders that have not been delivered. All really simple stuff to sort out if they could be arsed.

The recall could be because of the Popeye Scene on the boat.
It would'nt suprise me if the beeb forgot to clear this as it was'nt transmitted!

But that was in the VHS versions aswell. Surely they haven't been pulled ?

BTW, there's a copy in WHSmiths in Ealing. I guess the staff in Smiths are either very generous or too lazy to take them from the shelves ! ;)

£20 on Ebay with 15 bids and 4 1/2 days to run. Worth snapping up any spare copies I’d say.

Apparently the people at BBC Worldwide didn't inform the makers of the show that they were releasing it, so Iannucci and co. asked for it to be recalled so they could contribute to the disk.

They still have copies at Y2K next to Liverpool Street Station, though they're going for £18.99 last time I checked (this lunchtime). Then again, given their mounting eBay value...
