anyone else own one?
i just got mine-fine but for 1 thing.
it always switches the tv into wide mode-even when the disc is non anamorphic.
i switch it back to 4:3
and a few minutes later it switches it back again.
what's even stranger is if i tell the player it is connected to a 4:3 screen-it still does it!
anyone know if this is an issue with the player or do i have a dud?
i've contacted the online store and sony and am just waiting for an answer now....,.

What TV do you have?
If it's a WS TV then you want to select ZOOM not 4:3 for non-anamorphic movies. :/
In any case the auto switching is down to your TV selecting the wrong screen mode, disable AUTO FORMAT or similar in the TVs setup menus.

it's 4:3 titles that i want to watch in 4:3.
i'll try disabling the auto switching however and see what happens.
what's confusing me is-why would the dvd player be sending switching signals when it thinks it's connected to a 4:3 TV?

Is your TV widescreen?
If it is then leave the player set to 16x9. Disable the AUTO FORMAT and select 4:3 mode on the TV. My TV defaults to SMART mode on 4:3 discs, but I liek it that way. :D

yep-it's a sony kv28fq75 widescreen.
i've switched all auto formatting off, told the dvd player my tv is 16:9,and manually set the tv to 4:3.
that's ok for a while until the player changes the tv to wide again a few minutes later.
i can't believe that's normal-my humble sammy 709 never did that....
i'll just have to see what the suppliers say.

You have to go into the SCART setup menu and disable AUTO FORMAT for the actual socket you are using. ie. AV1

OK, I only asked 'cos when people say non-anamorphic they normally mean letterboxed widescreen, I know 4:3 is non-anamorphic too, but you get my point. :/
