My main light fuse blew on sunday so I ended up watching Ring on my own by candlelight.
Not too bad - but when I had to make my way upstairs to bed with those flickery shadows...

I missed both films this weekend :(
Are they worth buying or should I watch em first?
Hmm I didn't think Ring was *that* chilling or good
For me Ring 2 was a lot creepier (in the well anyone!?)

If you're scared by the first 2 minutes then you'll be brickin it by the end!
The film was broadcast widescreen BTW
As for buying the films. I'm waiting for someone to actually make a DVD to do them justice. ( the R2 is poor with burnt in subs )

I loved Ring 1, it was super scary and ace... apart from
apart from that stupid tacked on ending... ooh copy the film within blah blah blah
Ring 2 made no sense... and didn't seem to have that much to do with the film. By trying to expand on the myth it became something else.
what was with the kid and all the akira imagery when he was sitting by the swimming pool. What was with all the water (even Mulder could have come up with a better theory). Sada wasn't creepy in her new well get up and the film descended into feeble territory. Why did it save me... why didn't it make any sense.
I thought Ring was okay but it wasn't particularly scary... A bit creepy though I showed it to a friend the next morning. Ring 2 was pretty awful really, like all horror sequels (apart from Scream 2) IMO...

I thought that 1 was a bit over hyped to me. All the way through I was like, this is pretty scary, but I was expecting more
untill the end, where I filled up my pants in about 3 seconds flat, with the tv/husband bit. I think it must have lost something in translation, as it doesn't state that her and her husband are phsycic for ages. It looks like they might have, it's just that the subtitler didn't bother with that bit.
two was bloody terrifying. I have a definite aversion to scary little children. Or happy little children.
I think it comes from seeing "the children of greene knowe" when I was a kid. Supposed to be heart warming, is actually terryifying.

hmm might have to give this title a go then if it is genuinely scary. This is one of my least favourite genres because in all honesty it just doesnt work for me. The only film ive ever seen that did scare me was Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (78) when I was a kid but apart from that the likes of The Exorcist and Blair Witch did nothing...was especially disappointed with the latter that was hyped so much, all the yanks supposedly being sick out side of the cinema etc etc...
The problem with the horror genre, imo, is its one cliched mess full of inconsistencies, fiction and often annoyingly predictable. I never feel any empathy for the targets as they are usually laughably stupid and quite frankly deserve to die.

I like horror films but very rarely are they scary or frightening at all. I hate NOES and all the copies, but Ring is good. Didn't find it that scary but certainly unnerving in places and well worth a watch. Ring 2 wasn't bad but nowhere near as good.

Watch Don't Look Now.
*Looks over his shoulder, after thinking he saw someone in a red duffle coat behind him.....Nah!!!*
I loved Ring one of the first films to unnerve me in ages, however i think it is more the psychological effects than the outright visual scares. That damn musi sends shivers down my spine when ever i hear it. Oh and i agree with the scary kid thing that kid was messed up. :D

I thought it was rather disjointed and boring (IMHO). The main man just happened to have special powers!! where was this explained? It wasn't particularly scary but I did find the bit at the end chilling

I think this explains a lot of the hype and cult about the Ring
Kids in Japan were copying the tapes for each other, because they were worried that they would die if they didn't. This has helped increase it's cult status in Japan
Worth watching to say you've seen it, otherwise nothing particularly special.

I'm just glad I watched it on DVD, an old VHS copy would have sent me right over the edge. I still couldn't watch the "video" bit from the extras.
but i'm a big whoooooosie anyways.

Just avoid any Western remakes all together.
No doubt it will star a mixture of the Dawsons Creek & American Pie cast, running around like headless chickens.
I still havent got round to watching the rest btw.:D

At the moment the U.K release is the only one with English subs, so you're stuck with it for now.
There's a forthcoming R4 release, which might be worth waiting for.
It's so annoying, free Film4 for the weekend and I missed them... :(
Grrrr..

It's more annoying that I pay for Film Four, you get ti for free for a weekend and you miss them! ;) :D
It's a good film- eerie, whilst not being (for m) particularly scary- apart from that one magnificent piece of SFX which was a work of absolute genius, and shook the hell out of me!
