In my quest to do as much research as I can on what I might swap my digital camera for.

Does anyone have one of these?

thinking of partnering it with a magicstor 2.2Gb drive and tele lens.

I don't have one but a chap at work rates his. I think I've read too that the Magistore drives have problems with many cameras and you'll be better off with a solid state CF card. Unless you're shooting RAW you'll get loads of shots on a 512MB card.

I've got a G5, and I love it to bits.. Easy to use, great quality pictures. It has a few quirks, but I'm very happy with it indeed :)

I've got a G3, which is basically a G5 in a different colour :D. OK, there are a few slight differences but not that much, so I'm told.

BTW I love my G3.

I have had a G1, and a G2, the the 3 & 5 are progressions of this class of camera. All models are very noteworthy, great optics and full functionality. You can't really go wrong, plus the camera should be pretty cheap now, about £300.

I paid £600 for my G2, and it's a fantastic little camera (photos in my gallery below).

Excellent news chaps, my Sony DSCP10 is ok but lacks real dynamics and playability.

Hopefully this will be a good option.

Might get a couple of CF's based on the above instead of a drive.

Get a 300D - you know its what you really want :D

No doubt, but I can just about justify owning an evil black camera when I sold the wifes SLR last week on ebay!

No, but to be honest I haven't expected any sales, a friend has a far bigger/better gallery with a lot more visitors and he's only sold one picture.

It's very easy to setup the online ordering with the gallery I use though, I've been meaning to get automatic Nochex/Paypal ordering setup, just need to get round to doing it!

Mind made up now I think!

Hmm, just had a look. It's a little big.

Samiad

Yep it isn't a pocket camera. Usually though, if you go smaller you sacrifice some optical quality. I guess it depends on where you preferences lie, and how small you want it to be.

It's justifying it to er indoors to be honest.

I like the idea but I also like carrying one around.

It's this or an S60.

And I'm struggling to decide.

Samiad

The S60 should be a great camera as well, obviously a little bit smaller (but not tiny by any means). Not sure if it has the swivel LCD which is extremely useful, and the S60 has a slightly lower quality lens as far as I can remember.

Yes, it's light quality that I'm looking for. My Sony performs particularly poorly at low light. Even with the roof open at the Millenium Stadium it's poor.

But then hoofing a G5 to the stadium might also be a bind.

Decisions, decisions!

Right, next question.

What's the best storage

a faster 512MB card or a bigger 1GB one but slower.

OR perhaps a microdirve???

Anyone?

I don't think you save enough to justify going for any of the microdrives. I have a GB Sandisk Ultra and I can't tell the difference in speed over my regular sandisk. Many cameras don't support faster write times so the only benefit I get is when copying to my harddisk. Well that and it's supposed to be more robust. If I was buying now I would go for 2 512's over a 1GB if the price difference wasn't much. It would be handy being able to archive the pictures while still shooting. It takes a good number of minutes to backup the 1GB. You could even just go with 1 512MB for now and buy another if you feel the need, they'll only get larger capacity and cheaper.

Sound like very sensible advice.

Thanks wseed.

OK, I did the sensible thing (and avoided the trendy pocket size thing)

Bought a G5 and a 1GB CF card!!!!!!

Good move, the 1GB card should store many many pictures!

Thanks to everyone on this thread for advice AND crucially Sam for her advice in the other thread which was the same sort of question etc.

You are all brilliant.
