'm looking forward to this - one of the highlights of the year for me (if football is excluded!) I've been looking at the odds, and a fair few stand out for me - Woods - 8/1, Mickelson and Goosen - 16/1, Monty 80/1 (on his home patch), Casey 100/1.

Where did you see Casey at 100/1?

I took an early market price of 66/1 on him. Fiver each-way.

EDIT - Checked Oddschecker.com and can see 80/1.

I also went for Casey @ 66/1 2.50 ew & Clarke & 40/1 2.50 ew

Paddy power are paying top six + money back if Woods wins.

Last years winner, Ben Curtis, is 250/1 at Littlewoods:eek:

Quite an incredible price for Tiger that. Who'd have thought only a few years ago that we'd be going into the Open with woods @ 8/1
Personally i'd love to see him win it but cant' see it myself. Would also be really nice to see Monty win, but again, its not likely!

Fingers crossed then. :)

There's almost always a British player who comes through and challenges. Hope it's Casey this year.

Anyone going to The Open? Think I'll head down to Troon at the weekend. Know plenty of people working there and on the corporate side so won't have a problem getting in. If Casey's in contention I'll be there!

I've backed Westwood this morning e/w at 80/1 and am just going to have another couple of quid now.

I've just went for Jimenez and Casey - both e/w at 80/1.

Gunning for Els on this one. Gutted Justin Rose didn't make it through :(

If I had to bet it would be Either Els, Goosen or Mickelson I think.

Ian Poulter's been hard to spot on the course.

Some American guy called Kendall top of the leaderboard at -7.

Monty poised at -4. However tomorrow I predict a 75, an unseemly incident with a spectator, and a refusal to give any press interviews.

Got back today from two days at the Open, brilliant place to go and well recomend you go to St Andrews next year. £4.20 a pint though! Expensive! :(

I think that this year its between three players; Mikelson, Gosen or Els. It wouldn't suprise me if we had a play-off come tomorrow evening. Woods, although he has played a good round today, is way off his form of 4 years ago and doesn't deserve to win.

Great to see Lee Westwood performing well again, getting back his form and hitting some brilliant shots.

Roll on tomorrow and St Andrews 2005! :)

Eh, I just got back and it was £2.80 for a pint. Where were you? Great day out.

The Open Arms down near the 13th tee at the back of the course. It may have been different in the tented village but to be honest I was too busy running round seeing as much golf as possible to go in there :D

£5EW on Woods @ 8/1.

What an afternoon. Birdies left right and centre. Anyone -3 is still in with a shout I reckon.

Still fancy Mickelson to win it but Tiger is putting in a stunning 4th round.

Very poor TV coverage from the BBC. Frequently missing approach shots and not replaying them if the coverage was elsewhere at the time. One moment a player is just off the fairway, next he's on the green with no explanation of how he got there :oh-hum:

Fingers crossed for Mickelson, I got 66/1 on him after the first day.

This play off's a nervy affair, after dropping a shot Els needs a birdie to level
the agregate score to go to sudden death....

Well done Hamilton, to shake off Ernie in a Playoff is some feat but in an Open Championship thats an even better achievement

Congrats :D

Had 2.50 e/w on Westwood at the beginning of the week...just got back £33. Also had £30 on Hamilton towards the end of the day which returned £50. Had a great day there yesterday so all in all a good open weekend (my winnings will pay for the Bollinger I drukenly bought in the Bolly tent :) ).

Nice :)

Realoly glad Weswood pulled it together :) Looks like leadbetter has done some great work with him.

Gutted for Ernie though. Was rooting for him at the start.

2 masters in a row now where he has JUST missed out :( Would have become worlds no1 if he won as well :(

I thought Tiger had to finish outside the top 25 for Ernie to take the #1 spot?
That also means that Tiger breaks the record now too I think!

Boozyuzi

Ernie would have been world no 1 if he had won and Tiger had finished lower than 17th.

Norman still holds the record but Woods will break it if he stays number 1 until the Monday after the US PGA.

Just been reading that the Open team were not happy at being told to dumb down the coverage. Apparently some woman who is one of Peter Salmon's protege's told them that because the majority of viewers would not be golfer's they could not use technical terms and instead had to explain everything clearly. What is the matter with the BBC and their attitude to sport nowadays dumbing it down with non entity celebrities and getting in people who have absolutely no idea about the sports they are watching.

Brian_JD
19-07-2004, 18:28
Never noticed any dumbing down on the golf front over the w/e,fades-draws
-hooks and slices were all mentioned!

Who are these non-entity celebs you speak of DarkAvenger?

Gary Lineaker has a decent handicap AFAIK.

Have you a link to that article please DA?
