Can anyone please give me the low down on the general picture quality of the Coen's Fargo, Hudsucker Proxy and Raising Arizona on R1?

Are they anamorphic?

I've given up hope that they'll ever be re-released as SE's, but as long as the transfer is okay, that's good enough for now.

According to The Digital Bits (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/) there are new editions of FARGO and RAISING ARIZONA expected next year.

If you can't wait then there have been two editions of FARGO: a non-anamorphic, but not bad, one from PolyGram, and a better anamprphic one from MGM.

HUDSUCKER is anamorphic but has more than its fair share of compression artifacts. RAISING ARIZONA is one of the better looking non-anamorphics.

The Hudsucker Proxy has a good anamorphic pic, viewed on 6' screen. Could be sharper, probably needs a digital clean up, but not bad at all.

Fargo (http://www.thebigpicturedvd.com/cgi-bin/master/viewer.cgi/Fargo_mgm_) MGM

The Hudsucker Proxy (http://www.dvdreview.com/fullreviews/the_hudsucker_proxy.shtml)

Raising Arizona (http://www.dvdtimes.org.uk/reviews/region1/raisingarizona.html)

I own the Region 1 Fargo & Raising Arizona and they're very good. As for the special editions I can't see the point except to make Raising Arizona anamorphic.

http://members.tripod.co.uk/uploadimages/exclamation.gif I would just warn that The Hudsucker Proxy is a rubbish film and no transfer could enhance it.

The region 2 Raising Arizona is anamorphic (and I think it's under a tenner at the moment at play) I swapped my Region 1 for this earlier in the year.

I would be reckon than John Hodson has already seen it, liked it, and probably..made up his own mind and decided he wants it?

There's no such thing as a bad Coen Brothers film.

Exactly; Those Coens can do no wrong IMHO; and the Coens, Tim Robbins and Paul Newman? Well...

As for a Fargo SE, commentary is a no, no obviously. But I'd make do with 'making of' doco, and a music only track.

Have you all noticed what a little gem the r1 Blood Simple is. Super commentary, good visuals. The R1 fargo is faultless as far as I can remember. R2 Raising Arizona is a corker.

Where the hell is Barton Fink???

I've seen the Region 1 Blood Simple and it's nice -But nowhere near the niceness :D of the Spanish Region 2 disc.

The transfer really is fab.
