Really stupid question, and I looked for an answer but I cant see it.

Ive moved my special xbox onto a widescreen tv and its setup to display widescreen on the dash, but it doesnt.

Do I need an Advanced Scart lead?

Or am I missing something.

In short - yes.

The advanced SCART - the Microsoft one, btw - supports widescreen switching. Don't be tempted by the cheaper third-party ones - I did, and had to buy the Microsoft one in the end as the third-party one would display everything in 16:9 anamorphic mode, even when the picture was 4:3.

I just set mine to Widescreen in the dashboard settings and hey presto. Are you sure your TV is set to widescreen/16.9 too?

Also some games don't do widescreen or if they do you sometimes need to go into their settings and change to wide/16.9 also

You can obviously just manually change your TV to widescreen mode rather than buying the scart cable. Also there are quite a lot of X-Box games that don't support widescreen, I've got far more 4:3 games than 16:9 ones.

well, just nipped into town and got a 9.99 3rd party one, I know, but Ive tested it and it works like a charm.

Ive just setup my xbox in the lounge and are using it as a media player using XBMC and it is sooooo cool, I would recommend anyone with a special xbox to get it for theirs :)

My chipped xbox displays in ws and auto switches screen mode without the need for a new cable. I'm using the bog standard cable that came with the xbox.

You should get an RGB cable anyway to get better picture.

Oh Aye :) Got all 'My Videos' 'My Pictures' 'My Music' streaming and Ive been surfing the XBMC forums as theres loads more you can do with it.

Im going to edit the xml files so it boots to XBMC Dash, and Evox is secondary, Ive got the weather form my town streaming in :)

Ive just got to try and find somewhere that sells the XIP? sensor, The one that replaces the DVD dongle and allows you to switch your box on with the remote :)

I'm not sure if it replaces the Dongle, but it lets you switch on the Box with your remote.

Its XIR, search for XIR on google and I think its the top one that is the official site.

Yeah, I use XBMC as my dash, no complaints. Good piece of software and the forums are dead good. I've hacked at my skin a bit, got BBC News going along the bottom. :D

I'd be interested in the XIR sensor thing - what I saw before required soldering (which I suck at). Someone in another thread though said they use their remote? :?:

At the risk of this becoming an XBMC thread (it is so damn good though) can you please let me know what to do to change news to BBC. Haven't really looked into it much but sounds good.

Check your skin settings and edit the rss feed. I'm at work at the mo, if no-one has given better instructions or the XBMC forums aren't any help I'll post the better instructions tonight.

cool - will have a look. I thought XBMP was excellent but didn't have broadband or a permanently on server. Now I have the infrastructure XBMC is just perfect for just about everything and the BBC feed would be a great addition.

Basically (and very basic), I think you unplug the wires from the power button, and plug them into the XIR, then plug a wire from the XIR back into the power. The XIR has a sensor which listens for you pressing Display or 0, DIsplay would turn the Box on, 0 turns it off. Thats what I mean when I say that I don't know if it replaces the dongle, as I know it listens for those two buttons, but I'm not sure if it will actually replace the dongle, more than likely it just acts as some kind of Relay which is activated by the sensor, and the Xbox will never know its there, so you may still need the dongle.

Right, back home now, can tell you.

Look in your skin's folder for the folder "pal". In this, find the home.xml file. Edit this so the <feed> tags contain your source. So for example

<feed>http://news.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_world_edition/front_page/rss091.xml</feed>

would make the feed the BBC News.

I'm using BLUEblack Altjira btw, a skin worth checking out imo.

Yes played with the skin last night and just seen your reply. Good stuff. Next thing to play with is the scripts to get some websites I look at often viewable. Another thing which would be great would be access to the BBC Radio Listen Again pages for radio on demand.
