Go HERE and click on 'DOWNLOAD THE TRAILER!!!' (http://www.benandgrover.com/ep2teaser.asp)
it's about a million times better than what i was expecting after some of the reviews from the states! so dark, so understated .... just so damn cool!!
Star wars.... New Star Wars....

i think they're just too busy folllowing the link and grabbing the trailer! either that or they're michael brooke! :D no offence intended MB, i just know you're not interested that's all.
like you i am totally excited. too excited in fact to eat my breakfast!  :D
cannot believe how good it is! now that i've watched it a few times i think it was filmed in a cinema - hence the echoey sound. adds to the creepy atmosphere i think.
I am. Much improved my Monday morning.
Nice......
Subtle, dark, teasing.........love it! :D

Or they're at work and can't watch it! ;) :D
Yep just got it (1Mbit connection is very nice!) and must say I like it quite a bit, looks nice and dark and less aimed at 5 yr olds!

Interesting, thanks for the link Ben. I still wish that they had thought of a better name though!
So how big is it? Or put another way, how many hours will my lowly dial-up take to download it?:(

it's almost 9MB, so at 5kb/sec you should be able to download it in about 31 minutes! turn that :( into a :) and get it now!!
Grover - indeed, good point! sorry about that mate! come round tonight if you want to have a look. and am i glad i've got russ' subwoofer at the moment for the vader reathing sound on that trailer! ;)

8.95Mb, took a massive 3 minutes to download! (Far end server wasn't the fastest!) But is manageable on a dial-up connection, and the server supports resume if you have something like GoZilla or Get Right.
Get it now!!!!

hmm - I've downloaded it on our whizzy connections at work, but our office is so quiet, I might have to wait until lunch to give it a look!

it certainly does! and what a server it is ... proud to be hosting the file ourselves. i think there are two other sites out there who are hosting the same file as us, but our downloads are definitely the fastest.

By what I said I didn't mean that there are faster servers with the trailer, just that your server wasn't giving me 120k per second which is the max I can get on my 1Mb connection! Nice of you to host this though and let us know :) Now we just need more trailers to be released!

no problem at all, you're all more than welcome. the server actually belongs to a mate of mine ... who is probably going to kill me when he finds out how much bandwidth has been used by trailer downloads! :p
this is doing wonders for our site as well. we usually get 100-120 unique visitors in any 24 hour period, but i'm currently on almost 500 in the last 2 hours! :D
Big thanks to Ben Martin for feeding my SW habit.
Very cool trailer, very good quality too :D
Shame its still ages until its in the cinema :(
How did you manage to get this file BTW or is that "need to know" only ;)
Ben Martin
05-11-2001, 11:09
er ... it's definitely still on a 'need to know' basis! just incase west midlands police show up on my doorstep after hearing from lucasfilm's lawyers!! :D
seriously though, if lucasfilm had any problem with this i'd take it down straight away. and even if i don't hear from them i will most likely take this down when their 'official' copy goes up on starwars.com later today.
Shame its still ages until its in the cinema :(
might not be as long as you think (if you're referring to seeing the trailer at a UK cinema, and not the movie itself, that is). the BBFC passed the "romance" trailer last week, so both that and this short teaser have long been on these shores!

nonsense, that trailer is exactly the same as "ours"!!! they've just changed the filename.
so everyone, keep that forums karma high and download it from us (http://www.benandgrover.com/ep2teaser.asp) !!!
that said, at 1500 hits in the last three hours (!) i may be getting into deep trouble about the amount of download bandwidth! so perhaps not too bad there's an alternative link (on my thread though! :D )

no, no! i was just trying to make a joke out of it, that's all! sorry for any confusion.. at the end of the day the idea is to let as many people as possible know where they can download the trailer from. so the more links the better! :)

*In Chandler's intonation*: Could that site be any slower?
I'm getting 2.30k when I should be getting 230k...gona take over an hour when should be 30 seconds, screw that :brickwall
Looks a lot more like a Star Wars movie should do...............:)

I don't want to step on anyone's feet but you might want to try here (http://users.aber.ac.uk/aai/ctp-sw2-teaser.mpa) (it's on the end of a 155Mb link so anyone with broadband should be able to download it in a few seconds :D)

well, to be honest it isn't that impressive honestly. hopefully the full trailer and hopefully the actual film next year will be much better.
i realise all the fanboys will wet themselves over it, but there you go. its only a teaser trailer showing a few images, and never forget the trailers for episode 1 in retrospect were far better received than the actual film... lightening couldn't strike twice in a row could it ? hmmmmmmmmm...

Hi ya
I would be careful m8. If you mate pays for bandwidth then he is gonna go through the roof.
1500users x 9mb = 13,500 MB roughly
Now, if he hosts in the US, then price of bandwidth is on average $3 a GB
soooo about $40.50 so far.
If he is hosting in the UK, then be prepared for bankruptcy cos Webfusion charge £20/gb !

come on spooky, cheer up mate! :)
this is a teaser remember? and in that context it is excellent. imho, anyway. if you're rating its qualities as a 'trailer' by length and lack of dialogue, plot snippets and full shots then dream on. i think we'll be getting some of that on friday, and definitely the following friday.
it isn't trying to be a trailer as such, it's just trying to be a teaser. the things you don't like about it are intentional. it succeeds at what it sets out to achieve.

I am cheerful - but after episode 1 - ANYTHING is possible...
Besides, although a star wars fan (not a dribbling geeky fanboy though I might add!); I am looking forward to the Lord of the Rings trilogy a lot more than I am episode II or episode III....

Well, wherever the file is hosted at, so not your site then.
Whoaaa...I just finished watching it off of that second link, wow.
BTW, it's a cam job, pretty good and widescreen anyway, and there isn't much sound besides Vader's breathing so its ok for a sneak preview.
Wow, it's gona be cool, no matter what, it's a big budget Sci-Fi pic with dark themes glooming over it and it's a 5th one in a series, so no matter how many Jar Jar "Mesa Love you Long Time" Binks there are and no matter what it's called, I'm gona love it.
I even like some Olivier Grunner straight to video flicks
That trailer is the best! Really builds suspense without showing only bits between fade outs.
Nice one Ben, big pat on the back pal!
I cannot wait!! It has nicely wetted my appetite and have very high hopes!
cheers for the download ben watched while at college. got it in a few seconds but i have to admit natalie portman looks stunning!!!!!!!!!:) ;)

Get the hi-res bonefide version at the official site (http://www.starwars.com) now :D
Is Newsround still showing it today?
well even from that small clip it looks more ESB than ROTJ and if that shot of yoda is CGI then it looks pretty solid.

the file was hosted at our site lenny! i wasn't so lame as to just link to another site. it was sat right there on our server along with all the other files that make up our site. if you downloaded from us we provided it and footed both the effort and the bill.
and you're all welcome to it - that's why we did it. just trying to help out a few fellow fans and forums members.
we've done almost 3000 downloads in seven hours - about 25GB of download bandwidth which is going to cost someone (me, most likely) a packet.

a-ha! so that's why the downloads started to tail off! :) just as well really .... before i am completely bankrupted!!!
hmm, just checking out the official site .... whoa! as was to be expected, putting to shame and rightfully putting us in our place! :D still, hope you all enjoyed our version of the trailer .... now it's time to enjoy it all over again.

Anybody got a direct download link for the ones at the official site?
I guess it'll have to be the medium size one for me, seeing as how I don't have Quicktime Pro - what a rip off!
I'm soo ****** about the large trailer only being with QTPro at $30. Not that I can get the Medium one to download either....

It does seem rather odd that in Ep1: Anakin is clearly some 5 years younger than Padme, Yet in EP2: He looks the older.

i've removed the trailer from my site now.
** EDIT - correction, due to popular demand :D it is now back up! **
:Episode II Teaser Trailer @ BenandGrover.com (http://www.benandgrover.com/ep2teaser.asp)
seeing as the official site have it posted there doesn't seem much point keeping it up. although if people are having problems downloading from there, give me a shout and i can put it back up.
it'll have to go on a different server, having run up over 43GB (!!), from over 4800 downloads, in 8 hours! :eek

THANK YOU BEN MARTIN
I couldn't download the trailer from the official site. It said I needed Quicktime 5 (I guess I only have Quicktime 4), but when I used the link to go to the Quicktime website, it kept hanging. It is now yet another site that always hangs just as it starts to load up... i don't know what's wrong with my computer. So basically, I can't download the Quicktime 5 plug-in, therefore I can't watch the trailer.
So thankyou for the mpg version!!! It took 2 hours to download on my 56k connection, but thankyou!
Wow... it looks like you took the trailer off your website JUST as I finished downloading it. That was good timing.
I just want to add: Ben, will you do this for other Episode 2 trailers please, when they come out? If I can't use Quicktime, I'm going to need helpful people like you.

indeed, but since i took it down i have been inundated with requests to put it back up for exactly the requests you mentioned!
so i have re-posted the trailer. it's on a different server (based in the US this time, not the UK) that is also owned by the company who provide our webspace and bandwidth (OnTheBall Group (http://www.ontheballgroup.com/)). and before Lenny gets the wrong idea again (!) yes, we are still hosting this ourselves, the same as before! :)
so check out the updated trailer download page at BenandGrover.com (http://www.benandgrover.com/ep2teaser.asp)

yes, providing we can lay our hands on a copy of the trailers early enough, we will be providing the same "service" in the future.
one exception though: i won't be posting the trailer that is appearing on dvd.starwars.com this friday. Lucasfilm are being exceptionally strict about any content from there, and they have exceptionally good reason to be like that - seeing as it is a business issue - buy the dvd to view the content.

Anyone know if its due to be on TV tonight/tomorrow?

A direct link: http://starwars.apple.com/ep2/breathing/img/sw_ctp_640.mov
(I would imagine that replacing the 640 with 240 or 480 will give a smaller one)

it shouldn't take you more than 40 minutes to get our hosted version of the trailer on a 56k modem. there seems to be a problem with the file at the moment but i should have it fixed in a few minutes.

I've been saying this since I saw episode 1. George cast Anakin way too young. That was one of the things that put me off Ep.1. He was just not believable in the role. Now we see that George has gone for someone a similar age to Ms Portman and it all looks a bit more believable.

well, i had the trailer back up for about three hours from 8pm until 1pm and then it went down again. over 17,000 hits to the US server (!) and the hosting company eventually renamed the file themselves and sent this e-mail:
We temporarily suspended your user account and then renamed the Star Wars mpeg in the user directory for ontheballgroup.co.uk
The traffic this file was generating was too large for the shared hosting server to handle. Please do not put the mpeg back on the web under your shared account. If you do want to display the trailer we would recommend that you get a private server for $99 per month and pay for any bandwidth overages separately.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
 :p :D
oh well, after 13,000+ downloads and almost 120GB in download bandwidth .... i think we did okay!
