sorry for the belated reply I quite like the idea with Mac's and I've just managed to blag myself a job for a company supporting mac's (as well as PC's so that bit I'm not worried about) (I was very creative in my replies in the interview to what I new about mac's).... is there anywhere I can give myself a crash course around Mac OS 9.2 so I don't turn up on monday looking even more of a tit than I feel. Just basic stuff like what can go wrong how to fix it ect.

ERM - okay here goes... here are some tips to help you blag your way through Day 1.

If a computer crashes during startup... hold down the SHIFT key. This will disable extensions and startup the system using nothing more than the base system. If the computer starts up fine, this indicates that there is a conflict between two pieces of system software (probably third party).

If you need to install system software from a CD, or just startup from a CD, insert the CD and hold down the 'c' key during startup.

To be honest I could go on all day. Despite what some people may think, all computers go wrong - even Macs - and there are 100 things you could point to to solve the problem.

My advice, make sure you look online. Best support sites are:

www.apple.com/support/
www.apple.com/support/discussions
www.macintouch.com
www.macfixit.com
www.versiontracker

OH and make sure the computer is running the latest system software, there is a 'Control Panel' called 'Software Update', you find this in the Apple Menu --> Control Panels --> Software Update which should guide you through.

Good luck!!

Almost certainly! But not anytime soon. It's on the record as being 'unlikely' this year.

I initially thought that but I've heard some stories that Apple are contacting people who leave powerbooks in their shopping baskets, at the apple store without buying, seeing if they are ready to buy yet. Might they be trying to clear the inventory?

Wow. Haven't heard that rumour yet. How strange.

Apple never keep more than a weeks (if not a few days) days inventory so if they are genuinely flushing out their current line of PowerBooks in order to make room for a new PowerBook, maybe a G5 model, then we should see that within two weeks I'd say.

However MacRumors (www.macrumors.com) indicate it's only been 83 days since the last PowerBook update, and on average PowerBook updates happen every 171 days... so I think it is actually very unlikely we will be seeing an update soon.

Having said that, as I'll be buying a PowerBook in August, I'll be happy to eat my boxer shorts if you are wrong, as it might mean I get a G5 PowerBook! I won't hold my breath though.
:D
