View Full Version : Sony DSC-W1 digi camera
I got John Lewis (http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/pan/TrackerServlet?p=1231&a=60823&g=19581) to price match Pixmania on thus camera-the latter wanted £257 plus £9 del but JL price matched to £259. This is the cheapest I have seen for a shop (as opposed to Interney).
Aslo just ordered Lexae 128MB memorystick from PicStop for about .£26 inc del.
Have not had a chance to play with the camera yet but will report back after my hols.

Where's the bargain?
This camera is very good. I have it myself. Battery life is excellent, digital/optical zoom are well implemented. The main weakness is the focus which is dodgy as hell in low lighting or even just medium lighting. I often find myself resorting to manual focus.
The film mode is excellent, it produces essentially camcorder quality films.
I got the impression from other threads that it was uncommon for shops to price match Pixmania-I know a lot of people would prefer to buy from a shop like John Lewis.
So maybe not a bargain but I hope useful to other readers.

yoghurtThey do have a b&m shop though which is why JL will pricematch - Pixmania (http://tracker.tradedoubler.com/click?p=15797&a=60823&g=120943&url=http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/s_action/point_retrait/index.html?itag=160&itag=767#)
Just trying this with their Sheffield store, please could you post which store pricematched this so that I can quote the conditions to the guys in Sheffield should I get no joy initially? Would be very much obliged to you if you could do this small thing for me! Cheers...Flyer...
EDIT>>>I was told they wouldn't price match this as there are no prices on display in the store in London? Any help appreciated here babapappa!

dunno mate - looks like it's a pick up location only rather than - as I thought initially - a 'proper' shop..
How do they know there's no prices on display anyway? Suspect they're trying to front you out..
Gah! Never mind! Was all ready to go and get this tomorrow an' all!
D'ya think Jessops will price match it or are they another "B&M" store matcher only?
Cheers for the quick reply anyway. Much appreciated.
Anybody know of any "real" stores with this camera at these sort of prices. Going away this weekend & could really do with one by then. I'va had poor experience with 24 hr delivery services before.
Any help gratefully appreciated...ta...Flyer
Hi Flyer
I got Bristol JL to price match by ringing them up first and simply giving them Pixmanias phone number/address.
Good luck

Maybe they're just a bit freindlier down there! This guy was adamant that he wasn't going to match this for me and said he had phoned the London JL for their POV. They said they wouldn't match so he couldn't. I even gave him the phone number and exact web page! Ah well, I've ordered from Pixmania £253.00 delivered (hopefully by Friday) so we'll see what happens. They seem to be a bit 50/50 from my research. Some people are delighted & others are saying all sorts of worrying things. I found a similar price at Internetcameras direct but they don't have stock till next week and I need this for the weekend! (Arrrgh!) Thanks for trying to help though...much appreciated.
Fingers crossed for Pixmania though eh!?
I'm glad I did get it from JL as the camera packed up after 2 days use!
JL were most apologetic and swapped it for a new one.
