Picked up an NEC e525 for £79.99 from Woolies  . Get this, the same handset is also sold as a NEC N8,Expansys sell them for £221.45 http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=N8ASIAN . Nice phone.

Remember the US unlocking software doesnt work with this model.
There appears to be plenty feedback from peeps who have used unlocking software with success. I was reading many posts last night regarding this.
Surely, the price difference is because the Woolies phone is PAYG and thus locked to one network, whereas the expansys one is both an imported model and sold from the manufacturer as sim free (i.e. no lock). That sort of price difference is quite usual in my experience; the key point is whether this phone is much cheaper at Woolies than elsewhere on PAYG, or not.
Read the above post...there is an unlock solution available!

He probably read the T&Cs which forbid links to those sites on the DVD Forums, and didn't post it.
How does this compare with the Motorola v525 that I was thinking about getting?
why cant I see this on NEC's uk site???

There is nothing illegal about unlocking so it is not aginst the T&Cs.

What network is this on initially?
Read the above post...there is an unlock solution available!
Er, yeah but..... surely using that argument you could list virtually every mobile phone that's available on to here as a bargain, since there is a DIY unlock solution available, as opposed to purchasing an official sim-lock-free phone?
I repeat: the key point is whether this phone is much cheaper at Woolies than elsewhere on PAYG, or not?

type "removed" in the command line
Needs a data cable though

I would remove that link mate before the mods see it as unlocking software and how to do it isn't allowed on here
Mods, can links to unlock solutions be put on here?
dvds where in "The Bargain Forum Rules" does it state this?

Do a search. There is enough info already within this post to find one of the unlock solutions. If it was within t&c's i would have included a valid solution link within my first post.

Sorry, should've indicated it's on O2.

Which T&C does it break ?
I can see nothing in the T&C which prohibits posting information on unlocking. Unlocking is not illegal. If you contact your service provider even they will provide an unlock key for a small charge.
from T&Cs : All bargains posted must be legal. Anyone found to be posting any bargain that constitutes fraud or breaks any UK law will be banned from the site without question.
I could understand if the information provided was on illegal activity like changing imei numbers etc.
There is nothing illegal about unlocking so it is not aginst the T&Cs.

Tell you what, you post a link to an unlock solution then !
Sorry, we don't allow mobile unblocking to be discussed in detail.
There is a rule in the trading rules, but you are right, not in the general forum T&C's. Will get this pointed out to the powers that be.
From Trading Rules:
16.) Mobile phone unlocking is no longer allowed on the forums as is the sale and request of o2 simcards. This is now a black book offence.
enough posts mentioning nokia unlocking that haven;t been closed. I read the tandcs but didn;t check to see if mods had closed topics relating to solutions.
I have removed the link until a definitive decision is made by mods, and hopefully TandCs will either change or remain the same so we're not all blowing in the wind on this one.
Which T&C does it break ?
http://jupiter.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159663 . Rule 16 !
Edit : a mod posted while i was looking the url.
thats a trading rule?
shouldn't this rule be posted in general tandc's as this isn;t a trading but a bargain forum.

has 2 links in it and they have not been removed. As SteveC states in his post "Sorry, we don't allow mobile unblocking to be discussed in detail" posting a link to an unlock solution is not exactly discussing unlocking in detail.
posting a link to an unlock solution is not exactly discussing unlocking in detail.
You post a link then !
Posting a link which tells you in detail how to do it is enough. What I mean is that you can discuss the merits/whatever of unlocking, but just don't say how to do it. Same a chipping an xbox for example or using P2P software.
As far as I am concerned I will no longer by posting unlocking solutions as these will no longer be allowed according to the T&Cs of this site.
My apologies for posting the last one, but at least this has finally been clarified.
why is the sale and request of 02 sim cards not allowed then? is 02 somehow illegal now then? or do they just not like 02?
why is the sale and request of 02 sim cards not allowed then? is 02 somehow illegal now then? or do they just not like 02?
Some person posted some link to some website which was giving away free o2 SIMs and then some people decided it would be fun to order 100+ and flog them on this site for a tenner each

Possibily blatent profiteering considering O2 were (are) giving them away foc then they turn up on boards for sale the next day ?
How does this compare with the Motorola v525 that I was thinking about getting?
My question seemed to get lost in that debate about unlocking the phone... anyone have an opinion on this vs the Motorola 525?
Sorry Keith, I am unable to answer your question as i have not used the Motorola to which you reffer, however i am rapidly warming to the NEC and starting to favour it over the multitude of Nokias we have. The difficulty for you will be finding someone who has owned/tried both handsets, to give an opinion.
they giving them away free? my gf is after an 02 sim, ill have to try and find a free one then :P
i havent used that motorola either
yes these phones can be unlocked ive done a few myself so they seam quite a bargin to me ?? i can unlock them if any 1 has any bother

Got one today - very chunky but a nice big colour screen (and didn't realise outer screen was colour!)
O2 sim in it isn't free 300 txt/wap though, so worth picking up a different one. Could really do with unlocking this to use an existing orange PAYG sim though!

Yate in Bristol. Had about 4 left behind the counter, up above the people serving. Nice phone
please ignore - I;ve lost it todaY!
Anyone found a good review for this phone? Is the model number for the Woolies version the same as eXpansys' "NEC N8"?
The pic looks nice, but I'd prefer checking a proper review first.
just to stop people crying  easy to unlock if you know how
You can;t post that info.
from what I understand you could post "this phone can be unlocked", but not the details of the programme or methods used to unlock it. Please see page 1 of this thread where I removed the link to the software and the subsequent discussion.
As it currently stands you need to edit your post scOuse
I got 2 of these phones today, one for me and the other for the missus. Nice phone, easy to setup and use. Its on O2 which helps as they have the best signal for me.
It looks like its available in all woolies stores as the one I went to had a huge poster on the window. Also, ask them to check if they have stock as they had an "out of stock" sticker on the display but when I questioned at the till they went and got some out of the storeroom.
I checked 5 local stores today. All sold out.
Motherwell, Hamilton, Wishaw, Bellshill and East Kilbride were all gone.
My missus has put her o2 sim in from her previous phone (she gets lots of free texts on it) but it will not let her send a MMS. Can anyone shed some light on this? She really does not want to lose her free texts. Any advice greatly appreciated.
Probably need to get the settings from :
http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/ota2/select/0,,181,00.html
P.S MMS messages are not free even if you have '300 free texts' IIRC

She dont mind paying for the MMS, thats to be expected, and I have check the settings against my phone. That is also ok. It comes up with a message "Phone barred" or something. Seems a bit weird as she can can use normal SMS send and receive, but MMS receiving says she needs to goto a webpage. I think the only way to solve this is to phone them :(

Is your O2 sim card very old then MMS will not be activated. You will need to get the MMS activated I believe. I had to do this with my old O2 sim card when I got my Sony T610 all that I did was call O2 customer services and they sorted it out. It can take 24hrs to become activated but only took a few hours for me.
Thanks for all your help, hopefully a phone call to them tomorrow will fix the problem.

I think the Wishaw store had them the other day and the Jamica St/Argyle St branch also had them.
if you need to phone o2 customer services 4445... there is a cheaper way
if you dial 4444 to top up and then try to top up by credit card.
do it on purposely wrong 3 times, then you get the option to talk to the operater by pressing 1, they go through the this a 50p a minute line etc.
but it doesn't take any of your credit off.
(I have even used it when abroad to query a few things)

My sister works in woolies so im gonna see if i can pick 1 up with 10% off. If they have any in stock i will let people know in case anyone wants one who cant get one....
Anyone found more details about the phone? Would love to know a bit more about it here.

Don't assume that others talking of an unlock solution are doing the same as your reffering to. I'll give you a BIG clue DOS. Now what has that got do do with what your talking about ? Thats right, nothing. You are looking on the wrong boards or reading the wrong posts !
@lynx spot on and here is another clue (pt pte 10079 unlock)

Oh and USB cables, for transfering data like todo lists (apparently) can be found here for £13. Hopefully this will transfer pictures and java stuff aswell, but I dont have it yet so am unsure.
(click data cables, NEC then N8 - its the same one for e525)

For anyone in the Enfield area there are none left at Waltham Cross or Enfield Town Woolies. The Hertford Road one near Green St had about 15 left at 10.00 this morn as I've just bought one from there.
Still searching for U/L info if any kind soul would care to email me. TIA
Bromley in kent are sold out and according to my sisters people have been snapping them all up. But woolies will only sell 2 at a time.
Think they'll be getting any more in?? Out of stock at both regular Wollies in Sheffield and also Big W at Catcliffe this weekend.
How come nowhere else seems to stock them too?
About 20 left in the Newark Big W when I was in there last night
managed to get one of these phones today. :) Last one in store and according to the guy behind the counter, no more stock due and is a clearance sale, so when its gone its gone.

If it clearing stock then hopefully O2 get something jsut as funky, if not better, on PAYG
but remember, this is half price stock. Was £160, anything thats brought in to replace this product will be full price.
Ive ordered the usb cable for this phone.
These phones are on ebay for about 90-100 quid if anyone is desperate to get hold of one and having no luck at woolies.
Got my USB cable in today and phone is now open to all networks :)
Top bargain and good quality phone.

r we talking nectalk here?
i would say nectalk is a great bit of software. A very handy utility to do all sorts of things with YOUR nec phone. However according to the rules im not at liberty to discuss whether it permits a function that is not permitted on these forums. ;)

But can you tell me if it will transfer all documents (java/pics/sounds) from the phone? This is not against T&C's :)
Sorry mate, missed your question.
Will let you know tomorrow as the cable is at work...i took it along with me as I was just leaving the house when the postie brought it this morning and forgot to bring it back.

Big W near Bolton said they were getting stock in last night when I asked yesterday morning. They said they would happily reserve one for me, but I was only passing, and it's quite a distance to go back just for this.
Yes, the cable does allow you to transfer ringtones(midi and mmf files) to your phone and also transfer images to and fro.
If anyone is interested, the camera on this phone is rubbish.

Thanks for the info, still wondering about the java stuff tho. The camera is only 100k, so not the best. It still looks pretty good on my phone, perhaps your camera is not upto scratch? I compared pictures between a friends e313 and I prefered the one from my e525. But it could be down to many different things, like light. The camera is very poor in unlit areas.
I think you may need a seperate bit of software to allow you to download and upload the java files.
I took a picture indoors and was comparing to the nokia 6600.
The NEC e525 gives a very orange picture under indoor lighting. This is probably due to the phone being older technology compared to the Nokia 6600.
Am i right in saying the NEC e525 is just about identical to the 3g NEC606?
Does anyone know if Woolies / Big W still have any of these or are they all gone? There was a post saying a store was getting more in the other day...
I bought one yesterday in Nantwich Woolies
Hmm, just phoned around all my local Woolies/Big Ws and they're all sold out!!
D'oh!
Try the Big W's they usually have more stock.
Tried them - sold out too. Said they "might" be getting more stock but didn't know when
Anyone know how to change the message centre number on this phone when using other operators sim cards? I have unlocked the phone and am using an orange sim card but cant find a way of changing the message centre number.
