Like a few people on here i guess watching it on Film Four's free weekend is the first time many have seen this, it was for me.
I'm in two minds as to what i thought of it. It was brilliantly creepy but i don't know if i found it scary . I do find it really hard to be scared by films nowadays as i read so much about them and i have grown up to learn how films and techniques of film making have progressed. So a lot of scaremongering effects are sadly lost on me.

As for the film i thought some pieces were un-necesserilly(sp?) slow, granted i was very tired but i still stayed with it. Maybe the pace will be improved with a remake (unlikey i know but maybe )

It paid off in the end though as i though it became significantly more freakish. It'll be interesting to see where they'll take the story in the sequel tonight.

I'm glad i stayed up to watch it though, i would recommend it but only if your committed to wanting to watching something of that ilk. Sadly everyone in my family decided to go to bed when they found it was subtitled. :( Shame their loss i suppose.

What did everyone else think??.

i thought the same as you Robby, it didn't really scare me but it did have a creepy atmosphere all the way throughout the film and to me that more than made up for it.

Though that scene at the end where:

the girl Sadako walked towards the tv on the video and then came out of it nearly made me **** myself!!

The film overall was a slow burner, but it was a great mystery and i couldn't stop watching as i wanted to know what the tape meant etc and i certainly wasn't disappointed.

Would recommend it definitely. (though i wouldn't hype it up as some people have as that only leads to disappointed)

Also did you know that there was a Korean remake called Ring Virus ? Might be interested in getting that myself, heard it wasn't bad plus the dvd is anamorphically enhanced with english subtitles!

Plus there's also a prequel to the two Ring films called Ring 0 which is about

the young girl Sadako

though i don't think that it's on dvd yet

I knew about Ring 0 although i didn't know what it was about, i haven't heard of the Ring Virus so i'll keep my goggles open for that one. I agree with you about the end, that was possibly the most chilling if not scary bit throughout. Looking forward to the sequel tonight.:D
