I had heard this...is it true that the only version of AKIRA SE that carries the original 1989 English soundtrack is the Region 4 disc out on November 15?

Up....what, does this thread smell or something? Hundreds of hardcore AKIRA fans must visit this site every day....c'mon, share a little much-appreciated information!
:)
Heard the same thing too. I guess we'll only know for sure when it comes out. In the meantime the US disc is excellent with a decent dub, which is far better than the old one (bar the Colonel's voice).

so the R4 has 3 soundtracks ?
cos if it loses new dub it will lose some extras as well
According to a mod on the Madman forums the R4 will have...
DD5.1 Pioneer English Dub
DD2.0 Streamline English Dub
DD4.0/DD4.1 Japanese Dub
quite what extras are included is still anyones guess, but its not long to wait now till the release.

Yes, that's been (unfortunately) a given for some time now, BUT, what I really need to know is, does the extras-laden R1 (or the Japanese R2) include the ORIGINAL English dub or not??
Nope! At least, if it does, I can't find it. The new dub is much better - closer to the spirit of the original Japanese, but still not in the league of the recent dubs of the Mayazaki films. Tetsuo has been given a strange "wierdo" voice from the start, and Kanada has some macho jock leanings, but it just about works.

my question is
is the 4.0/4.1 Japanese DD track going to be better than the R1's DD surround Japanese Track (or am I just confused). If so then a prchase might be in order as the R1 Japanese track isn't as good as the English 5.1 Track :(
I'm also confused as the R1 SE is 2 disc but the R4 seems to have pretty much all the same extras* and is 1 disc (possibly with 3 audio tracks) - what gives ?

Restoring "Akira," a Documentary
Akira Glossary A-Z
The "Capsule" option
the 4.0/4.1 track sounds interesting, but I don't think we'll know whats going on with this release till tomorrow when hopefully someone picks it up and posts some information on it!
From memory Madman have said the following things about Akira R4...
Single Disc release, 3xsoundtracks, reduced set of extras losing all the pictures, restoration docs etc
2-disc release, 3xsoundtracks, apparently getting all the pictures but still losing out on the restoration features
but neither have ever been officially announced although the original information came direct from the discs producers at Madman.

Well, looks like the R4 is only for those who require a PAL transfer and the original English soundtrack...
Features confirmed from AnimeonDVD (http://www.animeondvd.com/dcforum/DCForumID2/959.html)
Single DVD-9 disc
16:9 Anamorphic
New English 5.1 Dub (aka the Pioneer Dub)
Original English Dolby 2.0 Dub (aka the Streamline dub)
Japanese Dolby 2.0 track (first time in Australia)
English subtitles for the Japanese track (Stock Madman yellow subtitles)
Beautiful cover (Akira Special Edition on the top half, with the Akira energy ball in wiping out Tokyo below)
Beautifully animated menu based on the jagged lines inside the second Akira ball, with nifty one-touch navigation
Akira Production report (Looks to made by Streamline, with dubbing over Japanese guy, pity they couldn't provide separate tracks and any English subs)
US Theatrical Trailer (The old Streamline trailer, with voice over by Greg Snergoff aka Scott Bernard from Robotech)
Japanese Trailers (Special Announcement A and B, and two trailers, all with subs)
I personally don't think this bodes well for the UK release...but we'll see (and is anyone really gonna wait till April?)
