Just got one of these for wifey. I now want a data cable. It's been a while since I looked at any of this and there's a miriad of USB ones on ebay for the 3100. Some say DKU-5 compatible, others MBus, FBus and DAU-9P compatible. Some come with driver disks, some without. Some are straight cables and others have a circuitry "lump" in the middle. So which do I want?

I want to connect to XP, be able to back up the phonebook and add ringtones, pics and games. Ta for any advice.

DKU-5 Compatible. With drivers (and Nokia PC Suite, you can get this from the Nokia website too.)

I got one (I have the same phone), only trouble is it is a right pain the ass to install, but it's fine when it does.

Between £6 and £8 with various combinations of £1.50 to £3 postage. A lot are HK based.

I just got a 3100 today as a free upgrade (see my other thread - New Phone, New SIM?) and might get one of these if they're cheap, if only to xfer some of my own pictures to the phone to use as backgrounds / screensavers etc..

Looks like a generic one will be about £8 delivered, but these don't specifically say DKU5... does that mean some things wont work with them?

Dunno. I went for a DKU-5 one from ebay. It ended up at £11.50 delivered. I went through some of the seller feedback and picked the one where there seemed the least problems with the cables. At that kind of money I'm not going to lose much sleep if there's a problem anyway (although it would be annoying!)

Edit: One of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=42407&item=6304912690) Mind you there was a compulsory £1.50 insure which I didn't notice at the time.

I got mine from this auction (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6303873118&ed=1088629177000&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOT:US:3) for £9.99 delivered including a CD full of goodies (since I'm sure as hell not paying £1.50 a time for some public domain pictures / ring tones!

Either way I'm sure they'll both be fine & do the job!

Now to find some websites aimed at ADULTS (ie. not Top 40 buying, boy band loving 11 year olds) with tasteful ringtones and background pictures etc...

Yeah they look pretty much the same thing. Only difference is the insurance rip which I didn't notice until I came to pay  Still £1.50 extra won't break the bank and will teach me to read all the auction details next time.

Mine arrived yesterday. Worked first time. No issues at all.

Mine too, although it didnt look as though it was going to fit at first. Luckily I kept trying and finally found out how it fits on (snugly).

Nokia PC Suite is kinda cool, if a little bulky, and the included CD was full of nasty ringtones and java games. Will play with these soon..
