Well, I've been away from the forums for around 5 weeks now due to some computer problems, a faulty modem and the very poor after sales service of a certain computer company - no names mentioned but they are very 'small', if you get my meaning. Serves me right for buying from them in the first place, I suppose  :brickwall :(

Anyway, that's another story! Since I've been back I've been trying to find out the best region to buy Snow White on. I've checked through some of the back pages but I'm still a bit unclear if I should go for R1 or R2.

From what I can gather the R1 has a Silly Symphony short that's missing from R2, R1's docu is about 17 mins longer and R1 also has the original mono soundtrack. While I'm not too bothered about the mono soundtrack, the extra content of the docu & the short feature are big plusses to me.

Yet in another post, it states that the R2 Storybook Edition that is exclusive to the Disney Store, contains even more content than any other edition + a 192 Collector's Book!

The book sounds a nice addition, but it's the content of the DVD that's most important to me.

So, can anyone give me a definitive answer - should I go with R1 or R2? And what is the extra content on the Disney Store exclusive disc?

Jeez, why can't these companies stick to the same content through each region (if there are no copyright issues) and make it easier on us poor DVD buyers!?! It's enough to make someone go ga-ga

You'll find all the info you need to know about the Snow White disc and over 1200 other discs here (http://www.dvdcompare.org.uk/index.htm) :D :D

I went for the R1 version in the end. It was the cheapest and I didn't fancy the cardboard box which forms the R2 special version packaging.

Also, FYI, Disney are bringing out 4 limited edition Walt Disney Treasures DVDs in R1. One of which is the Silly Symphonies collection. They come out at the start of Dec 2001. I've got that one and the Mickey Mouse collection snugly in my flexicart at Dv-depot.

Thanks for that, Reecie. I think I'll opt for the R1 version too, mainly for the extra content in the docu.

Interesting info about the WD Treasures DVDs, I'll keep an eye out for them. As much as I admire & enjoy what Pixar & Dreamworks are doing in the CG field, I still have great affection for classic animation.

I'd love to get some of the classic Warner Bros/Chuck Jones/Tex Avery stuff on DVD. Are there any collections out there already, I wonder?
