Ta Alan, I'm still useless at linking things... and putting in prices by the look of it. My bad...
It's a web only deal also.
I got exactly the same iBook for £520 from the refurb store.

Well done, can you still get them for that price?
Ooh ... one year FREE warranty. That's big of them ... seems fairly standard to me, unless you are talking "Coverplan" and last thing I knew PC Servicecall didn't service Apple!!!
That's a great price, especially for a G4. Probably faster than a 1GHz G3.
as a die hard pc user i'm loving the ibook i got in the last deal, sat here now with it on the table with a beer watching telly, osx is brilliant too.
would definitely urge anyone thinking of it to go for it.
(ignore darth vader if he turns up to slag em off)

does anyone know if these are airport extreme capable? and what the maximum ram is?
i got one from pcworld last time, but i'd love a little bit more, and i have a friend willing to give me the £500 i paid for this one :D
I've installed an Airport Extreme in mine. These come with 128mb internally, so by replacing the additional 128mb simm with 512mb you can have 640mb (MAX). I think you can go beyond this but not officially.
Bob Bob, that price seemed pretty standard on the refurb store, you just have to be patient and check straight away when it opens at 10.30 today.
"2 x USB connections"
Is that as it says. Or is it USB2.

Will be two standard USB 1.1 ports, AFAIK Apple's don't support USB2 (probably because it's an Intel designed spec).
To quote the Apple website,
"Fast Connections : Every iBook has a superfast FireWire 400 port built-in, so you can easily connect to high-speed devices like the iPod, digital camcorders and high-speed disk drives. And the two USB 2.0 ports let you connect your iBook to hundreds of digital cameras, printers, scanners, joysticks and PDAs."
The worst thing about PCWorld's site is the spec and technical info is either missing, incomplete or completely and utterly wrong. It is absolutely ridiculous.

The Apple Refurb Store opens at 10:00 every Wednesday, not 10:30. Unfortunately, they only had one version of the iBook today (14" G4/933MHz/256DDR/40GB/Combo) but despite trying to add it to my basket straight away to see the price, it never appeared and threw me back to the main Apple Store page each time, and was then out of stock by 10:10. There's always next week...

this is an older model ibook so don't assume it will be usb 2.0 just because the current ones are. mine is a G3 800, not much ollder than the G4 800 at all and it's only usb 1.1. disappointing it's maxed out at 640mb ram, that's what i have on this one, i'd say it isn't enough! :D

They ARE USB2.0.
This is the first edition of G4 iBooks which suported USB2.0 (I have a 14" 933 iBook).
they have recently been upgraded to 1Ghz with a larger cache, so PC World are simply clearing out the old line. AFAIK, these are the only differences since last November.

PC World are offering a G4 800mhz iBoko, though

this page http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/stats/ibook_g4_800_12.html supports that they are usb 2.0, has pretty decent specs on the whole ibook :)

Yes, but they are the same generation as my G4 933, and have exactly the same connectivity.
I know cos I considered the 12" at the time. :)

Anyone used Dreamweaver on the 12" screen, was it still usable?

Anyone got one of these?

Fine for Word Processing. You'd probably want a bigger screen for Photoshop (goes up to 1024 * 768 I think). Excellent for DVDs although multiregion firmware isn't available for all drives.

You can only get a larger res than 1024x768 on a PowerBook.
There is however a hack for the screen mirroring to run at higer res's on an external monitor... ;)

PC Service Call do support Apple. They will diagnose any problem over the phone and if they suspect a hardware fault, will refer you to Apple. Easier to just goto Apple in the first place, remember to fill out the Apple warranty card or they won't support you until you have.
Note: I was the only Apple specialist at PC Service Call, and now i have left, they have no one. So, if you phone with an Apple problem, i garantee they won't know how to sort a simple problem. My advice!? go straight to Apple.

if you use a program called VLC for playback, all you have to do is change your prefs to not aoutoplay when a dvd is inserted and it allows you to play R1 dvds ;)
Can these ibooks be networked with a PC.

Can these ibooks be networked with a PC.
Assuming you just want to move files between the two, then yes.
Create a share on the PC, then connect to it via SMB from the iBook.
OSX (the latest Mac Operating System) allows for easy connection to a PC based network and supports many standard PC network protocols.
