View Full Version : Stargate SG-1 S1 DVD Boxset R1
Does anybody here have the R1 Season One boxset of Stargate SG-1 and can comment on the quality ?
I have read many reviews but they range from "absolutely stunning picture" to "full of grain, pixelated and really terrible".
I really love this show but sadly they have not released the first season on R2 so I will have to go with R1.
So can someone who actually has seen it tell me how the picture looks ?

I own the r1 season one stargate set and all i can say is it looks stunning and i have no complaints at all. Also it is uncut so you get a few extra minutes for stargate travel for your money. U even get nudie scene in the first or second episode Yipee!!

Hi,
I got it from DVD Boxoffice for about £45 at the time (no customs).
The quality is good with no pixelation, but a little grain noticable in places. This is due to the original source material, not the transfer.
It's wide screen anamorphic, so if you have a widescreen TV it's going to look better than it ever does on Sky 1.
My advice is go for it, you won't be sorry.
I'm trying to decide how to increase my collection now. Wait for S2 boxset on R1, or separate R2 DVDs for S2 onwards. Difficult decision. £90 versus £45, if they ever release an S2 boxset.
Best wishes

I'd have to agree. The quality is great. Shame buffy/angel aren't/won't be as good. It's probably the best quality from a TV series so far.
Paul, as for the 2nd series, why not go R4. 5 of the discs are out now, and the last is out in Jan. They are between $26-31 AUS (or about 9-12 quid)
Go For it, got mine for £49 (no customs), and has been said before there is a little grain, but not to much to worry about. The extras are the same that are on the R2 discs though. The reason I purchased the box set is because I have all the R2 discs and it doesn't look like MGM will ever release series one onto disc.
Thanks for all the quick answers.

DVD Boxoffice is a Canadian company - are the Canadian DVDs identical to the American DVDs ?
I'd expect so the only thing is that you tend to have a small sticker with the Canadian age rating on the back (wow big deal) LOL.
