Doesn't sound like a bad offer at all. But with search disabled, I'm not too sure whether the Mustek has been discussed before and whether the conclusions were good or bad. Any opinions on this cheap 7" screen portable player?

Now that is impressively cheap. Of course, with a 5" screen, I'd better get a new pair of glasses.

Are there any reviews for it?

Since nobody here seems to have an opinion on the Mustek, I think I'll see what good old Google has to say about it.

Choices, choices.

any news on this.

I've been busy and forgot to chase up on reviews for this player. I probably won't have time to even think about buying it before the week-end. If you find anything, let me know. :)

Note that the aldi product neveer mentions mutli-region.

Single region dvd players are officially for fools...

found this about the mustek:

Not a good review (http://www.reviewcentre.com/review120404.html)

Not exactly inspiring...

I also did a brief read on google groups, and found this snippet:

"When viewing a DVD (say "Die Another Day"), the only way I can get it to
view on the TFT in the correct aspect ratio, is switch to 4:3. This means
that the picture is very small. Are they going to release a firmware
upgrade which has a zoom mode on it (as the normal/16:9 show films in the
wrong aspect ratio on the TFT)"

The guy also says that the player has issues playing svcd.

DON'T buy the Mustek. I bought one in January from Microdirect (I know!) and have had to return it twice. The current one I have seems to be slightly different from the other two - maybe they updated them? The pcture is pretty good, but they are way too unreliable.

I have owned a Mustek dvd player for about 18 months (the 408) and have loved it. Worked perfectly and played just about anything I put in it, any region. It came with all the accessories I needed and can plug it into any tv or amplifier for better sound. It is now behaving a bit dodgy after having dropped it twice, but it is still doing its best so I can't really complain!!! (Sometimes says the door is open when its not so I just put something heavy on the lid to press it down and this usually does the trick)

I have now treated myself to a new one and have just received the Mustek PL407 and it also came with all the accessories, plus a carry bag which you can alter the straps to put in the car, as well as a cigarette lighter connection. It has a slightly smaller screen than my previous Mustek but so far it is brilliant. Good picture and good sound and I have entered the code for multi region so it too will play anything I put in it.

So far, I am well pleased with both Mustek models.

Please note that I have looked on many websites, including Rankhour.com (C&A Electronics), which is where I purchased mine and they all give the wrong instructions for changing the Mustek PL407 to multi region.

The correct sequence is:

Switch on the player with no disc in and press SETUP.
Press NEXT, Press PREVIOUS, press NEXT, press PREVIOUS.

A little number will appear at the top left. Use the up and down keys to change this to a "0" (multi region). Press SETUP again.

Most websites tell you to change the number to 255, which you cannot do. This is the number for other Mustek models but not this one.
