The film is in colour (I think) and is set in the (North-Eastern) USA. What I can remember from the plot is a family gathering at either Christmas or Thanksgiving. There is some form of love interest between the young adults in the story. At some point the whole family (including the mother and father) go on a sleigh ride through the snow and go ice skating on a frozen pond.
I also remember that the family have a classic looking home and there is
plenty of snow on the ground.

Finally, one of the main characters is the younger brother (a kind of Mickey Rooney guy but I am sure it is not him) - I remember that he distrusts one of the other characters and, because he thinks he is a detective, he dusts an apple for finger prints.

That is about all I can remember - does anyone know what film this is (and if it's available on DVD)?

Hey Kashir - obviously a Doris Day officionado:)
Her back catalogue is still sadly being denied a good DVD release - How many of her movies are available at present (anywhere)... about 4 I think... shocking.
