I'm willing to place money no-one else has the Hong Kong DVD release of Melody (http://us.imdb.com/Details?0067418), an ultra-rare kids' romance film from the early 70s with a very funny Alan Parker script and knockout Beegees soundtrack.

It seems to have had something of a revival in the far East. There's a soundtrack CD out and everything!

Hong discs I would think noone else has as follows...

The Group - Francis Ng and cameo by Anthony Wong
My Name is Nobody - Nick Cheung and Shu Qi
Space Travelers - someone might have it, but it's obscure to most people
What a wonderful world - Andy Lau
Litter on the breeze - anyone who like Wong Kar Wai will find this oh so funny as it rips into the WKW style (although WKW produces). Stars WKW regulars and Eric Kok who also directs.

Ones that I'm thinking people might not have are...
Phantom Lover - Leslie Cheung and Jacquoline Wu.
Bayside Shakedown - great japanese comedy thriller
Jacky Cheung 1995 concert
Andy Lau 99 Live
Rock n Roll Cop - Ringo Lam

But your all gonna tell me you own Jacky Cheung 1995 concert aren't you :D

I've also got a DVD called: Fonteyn & Nureyev: The Perfect Partnership.
It's NOT mine. Honest.

From the amount of times that I have to add titles to dvdprofiler I guess I tend towards the rarer end of the market

Because it's new I don't suppose anyone else has :
Buster Keaton L'integrale des Courts Metrages 1917-1923 - 713 minutes of bliss.

I also have the french version of Ossessione and the Spanish version of The Magnificent Ambersons

And does anyone else own The Great Silence , a fantastic, bleak, Corbucci western, with Jean Louis Trintignant and Klaus Kinski? Great film.

Hendrik

...yup... I have Ossessione (a.k.a "The Postman Always Rings Twice - Italian Style") - twice, once on LD and then on DVD ;) ...

Yes!

As for DVDs I own, I would suggest Image's R0 DVD-18 edition of <i>Les vampires</i>, but I do know that at least one other person, namely Michael Brooke, has that as well.

Most of my "obscurities" I've reviewed for DVD Times, so I do live in hope that at least one person might have bought a copy as a result...

I have several US and quite a few Australian videos that I bet I'm the only person in the UK to own, but they don't count.

I bet no-one else has <I>Bringing Up Girls In Bohemia</I>, a 1997 film from the Czech Republic on a Czech DVD. This was sent to me by mistake, but my Czech wasn't up to complaining, so I kept it and watched it - not bad, but a little too obviously based on a postmodern novel for comfort (it's about a writer imagining alternative realities).

...or Iranian director Dariush Mehrjui's Leïla, or Serbian(?) director Srdjan Dragojevic's The Wounds, or Spanish(Catalonian?) director Jaume Balagueró's very sinister Los sin nombre, or Austrian director Michael Haneke's Code inconnu, or Luigi Comencini's 1972 live-action The Adventures Of Pinocchio - featuring Gina Lollobrigida as the Blue Fairy --- or Amores perros with a dts soundtrack?...

Hendrik,

The french Ambersons does look good, but when I saw the spanish version was available I just couldn't wait. Looks like I'll end up with both. :)

Is Johnny Guitar a nice disk? I've been tempted by it in the past. As I'm tempted by the forthcoming double bill:
http://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/fiche.php3?id=3895
(Salome, Where She Danced & La Vallée de la vengeance )

A couple of others that people may not have:

Ring for Doom Service - triple bill of Horror Hotel, House on Haunted Hill & The Bat

If anyone had bought <i>Wishbone Ash: Legends of Rock</i> (sorry for mentioning it twice in one day, but I think warnings need to be made), I'd feel immensely depressed.

On a more serious note, I'd be quite surprised if anyone has Gary Sinyor's excellent <i>Stiff Upper Lips</i>, given the somewhat 'low key' treatment (i.e no extras, stereo sound, nice anamorphic picture) it got, or Philippe Rousselot's flawed but interesting <i>The Serpent's Kiss</i>.

Wow, incredible, someone else likes the movies I do!

You'll definetly enjoy Angel's Dance and Retroactive, don't forget Gang Related coming out on a $10 R1 dvd on Nov. 20th. I've went through lots of crap and these 3, plus Mr. Destiny and Once Upon a Crime are the best of his movies. (Last 2 are only out on LD/VHS)

Cyborg 1 is terrible, with Van Damme as a human, protecting a cyborg carrier who's got some important medical data for a cure to an epidemic.
Cyborg 2 is much better, with some top notch cheesy lines and acting, in the tradition of Snake Plissken movies. Angelina Jolie plays the run-away cyborg Cash and is helped by her former trainer Elias Coteas' Colt, who fell for her while it's illegal to engage in physical sexual acts with the property of PinWheel corporation that produces the cyborgs. She ran off because she was going to be used as a bomb to blow up CEOs of a rival Japanese company, etc... Nicely done movie for a small budget.

Circuitry Man I & II are available as a double feature DVD, both equal in quality, again very very cheesy B-movie material. The world is so polluted humans move underground, and Lori is a female bodyguard for a computer chip smuggler, which are now the drug of choice and everyone's installed plugs so that you can connect things right into your head and experience them. So she steals the chips and runs off in hopes to sell them in NY, gets a male pleasure android to guide her through underground tunnels, while he himself is obsessing over a love of his life which is just a figment of his "imagination" preprogrammed into his head, as they're chased by the Plughead, a "villain" with too many ports and plugs in his head, very charismatically played by Vernon Wells. In the second part, Plughead is selling life prolonging chips to the ruling class, while they're actually more than that, he wants to control the world by controlling the people through those implanted chips. It's pretty bad, will work better as a rental if you're "curious" :D

Good film that, if you like that sort of thing, which I do! Only heard of it because I saw the trailer on the DVD of "I still know what you did last summer" (don't say it, it's got Jennifer Love Hewitt in it in a bikini so I stand by my decision to buy it!) By the same team as Josie and the Pussycats (spot the reference) and the Brady Bunch movies.

As for obscure films, anyone else have "A Boy and his Dog", bizarre post-apocalyptic thing with that bloke from Miami Vice wandering around a wasteland with a talking dog trying to get laid? Doesn't even come in a proper DVD case just a CD case.

I was lucky enough to get hold of a copy of 'Ed Wood' on R1, which was withdrawn before it was even released.

I heard it was withdrawn because of legal reasons with one of the extras, or I also heard that Tim Burton did'nt want it released quite yet because he wanted to add more to the disc. As far as I know it still has'nt been released on R1 yet.

I have an Anchor Bay two-disc set of The Message (http://uk.imdb.com/Title?0074896) and I would imagine I am the only person outside the muslim faith who owns this.

Anchor Bay's PR company sent it through for a review so i didn't pay for it.

I know for an absolute fact that I have a DVD no-one else does. I used to be the DVD producer for Dennis Publishing's ill-fated Playstation 2 magazine Playnation. The disc for Issue 14 was completed, but never pressed (the mag got canned at issue 13), and I have the only test copy in existance in the world.

Mwa haha.

It's absolutely worthless to anyone though. :(

you could probably retire off that sale.

Perhaps I had better not mention then that I first saw them in 1971 (at lowestoft College) just before they appeared on the Belgium show :dork:

Have seen PH 3 or 4 times now, including the tour with Marillion - Half as Cheap and Twice As loud was how we summed it up at the time - have EVERYTHING the man has produced :notworthy

Edit: And if you can't wait any longer for Play to get the Godbluff DVD, get it direct from http://www.classicrockproductions.com/storen/vandergraafgen.html

I've got the Facets R1 release of Daisies (Sedmikrasky) by Vera Chytilová. I imagine not many others here would own this.

Now if only there was a DVD release of Hans-Jürgen Syberberg's Hitler: A Film From Germany, or Themroc, or Céline et Julie vont en bateau, or W.R.: Mysteries of the Organism, or La Salamandre, or...

Watched a very strange movie this afternoon on Movies 4 men this afternoon called 'White Cargo' A truly awful 70's British comedy with David Jason as a super spy rescuing lots of strippers from becoming slaves. It was strangely captivating in an 'Ho my God what were they thinking?' kind of way.

Anyway back on topic.... (Because no one will have that on DVD)

Was wondering what was going on for a moment there when MB was mentioned, until I noticed this thread was started in 2001

I've got some obscure stuff but nothing that obscure, and besides if a DVD sells more than one copy someone out there must have the other :D

Hong discs I would think noone else has as follows...
Space Travelers - someone might have it, but it's obscure to most people

I have this, got it from CD-Wow (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=12) for about £4 a couple of years ago.

I don't think a lot of people will have this film from Larry Holden, My Father's House (http://imdb.com/title/tt0408019/)
I was lucky enough to talk to Larry on a Batman forum when he was doing Batman Begins, he was happy to send fans a copy of his Director's Debut for no charge, Nice Guy :)
