Hey,
Just bought a nice Medion laptop from Komplett, and I'm liking it a lot... aside from the DVD drive, which seems to be the root of all things unholy in this world.
Basically, it is a picky sod about all sorts of things - it won't play the copy of Spy Game I hired from Blockbuster Online (there's a paper sticker around the centre, so I assume that's the problem), I get an annoying install error when I try to install NFS Underground, and I can't play Max Payne 2, because it says something about validation expiring, after taking ages to try and read the CD.
The drive isn't totally knackered though, which is the annoying bit - it plays my copy of Bandits fine, and I copied some files across to it using a burnt CD.
I think it could be the type of thing that's solved by a patch... but the drive manufacturer's website is junkworthy. The drive make is QSI, the drive name is listed as "QSI PVDRW SDW-041." Google yields a lot of French results, most of which appear to be concerned with burning problems relating to Nero, and the drive not being recognised.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
JP
