OK - I have to say I've never quite had anything like this happen to me before and I'm not entirely sure what I should do:

Last Tuesday, I placed an order with [Edited] for 4 sets of compatible R200 printer cartridges over the phone. When they hadn't arrived by Friday, I phoned them up and I spoke to the manager and he said they should have been delivered by Amtrak on Thursday and he would look into the matter. Over the weekend I noticed that the price of the cartridges went down meaning I could have made a saving of ~£5 (not much, I agree but still a reasonable saving given I hadn't yet received the cartridges). When I hadn't received the shipment by Monday afternoon, I phoned up and he said that there wasn't anything he could do about it and that I would have to call up Amtrak myself and find out what had happened to the delivery. I then mentioned that the prices for the cartridges had since gone down and asked whether I could have a refund of the difference given that I still hadn't received my order and explained that I was well within my rights to cancel and re-order at the lower price. At which point, the manager became very abusive and said:

This is the reason I don't like dealing with Asians because they attempt **** like this - I know because I'm Asian

At which point I was not about to tolerate any more and simply hung up. I tried calling Amtrak and they have no information on the consignment number the manager gave me. Needless to say I've now decided that I don't really want to continue my transaction with these people and would like to cancel my order (I will buy my cartridges elsewhere).

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should go about cancelling my order? The manager clearly cannot hold a sensible conversation on the phone - I suppose the best thing to do would be to write to the company requesting that they cancel my order? Alternatively would my credit card company be able to help?

EDIT:

I originally named the online retailer involved by I thought better of it and have now removed the name.

I own a night club and a fitness studio. Although they're not online would you be so kind as to email me your name/address, so I know not to let you in :D

Seriously, if you don't want the goods don't accept them (and make sure nobody in your house does). If you don't want any more contact with them, give your bank a quick phone and tell them he racially abused you and you are too scared to contact them again.

I think you should name the supplier too. I mean, it's not as if the manager is going to phone you and abuse you down the line...errr, again.

Maybe best not, there is a chance the story isn't true, I'm not saying it isn't, but unfortunately there was a thread here before about racist ebay sellers and it all turned out to be very different to how the original post explained it!

Even if the goods do turn up and do get inadvertently accepted you can send them back for a full refund under the Distance Selling regs, you will lose the postage, but they can't charge you a restocking fee.

Definitely never deal with any supplier again who leaves it up to you to chase a courier for a missing consignment, this is 100% the sender's problem and they need to be chasing it for you.

Actually, I was more worried about liability for the forums. All I will say is that this particular retailer is not exactly mainstream, but still deal with a lot of clients. However, to be honest I couldn't care less how rude the manager was if I were to actually receive the item...but I haven't yet and it seems increasingly unlikely that I will.

Yes, I've had enough wasting time attempting to contact Amtrak. If the item doesn't arrive by Thursday then I'll just get Barclaycard to deal with it under their Internet Delivery Protection policy - I have better things to do than to deal with disorganised and rude retailers.
