Geoff Boycott - good or bad commentator?
Myself I used to like him a few years ago but think he has become a bit boring as he just seems to state the obvious and repeat himself again and again. Mind you anything is better than Dermott Reeve.
I think he's great, at least he gives a opinion rather than sitting on the fence. C4 have three of the best with Boycs, Richie and Ian.

Wot he said
Also, I watched his batting master class during the last test and thought it excellent.
:notworthy :notworthy
any young cricketers out there could learn an awful lot by listening to Boycott & Richie .
can't remember what he was on about yesterday morning, but he mentioned " they should have been strangled at birth" :notworthy

Don't kow about you but I get one hell of a stiffy whenever Geoff Boycot is on TV, does this happen to anyone else ?

funny you should say that F, it could be something to do with his top lip curling up at one side, you just want to toss his hat away and kiss him all over.

His voice gets a bit annoying after a while, but i like the fact he tells it like it is
:notworthy Boycott is GOD!!!!:notworthy
In true Yorkshire style, Boycs calls a shovel a shovel. He argued Athers into submission with his thoughts on the use of technology in today's game, esp. LBW decisions, surprisingly being in favour of it (which kinda took me aback, as I thought he would be anti-it, as Athers was).
I'm glad to hear his dulcet tones again - it was a nice gesture by C4 to get him back for a one-day final last year and I seem to recall we all hoped and prayed C4 would get him back in the comm box - thankfully they did. No offence to Barry Richards (the ousted commentator), but Boycs is just worth stopping and listening to, whilst Richards used to send me to sleep (a bit like David Gower does on Sky).
There really are some good TV commentators about now - the Willis (always whinging, complaining, criticising)/Botham (ne'er sitting on the fence)/Holding (always complaining about the weather)/Lloyd (just plain bonkers - a true fan's commentator) quartet on Sky, shortly to be joined by Hussain (another who I can see coming right out and having a go at the selectors in true Botham-stylee); Cozier/Cowdrey (who's commentary for Sky on the W Indies-Bangladesh game was just superb); I Smith/Benaud/Boycs on C4.
You can keep Dermot "I'm so great" Reeves, mind - there's only so many times in a year that an Imran Khan impersonation is actually funny.
It's a long way from Tony Lewis, Jack Bannister, Ray Illingworth et al (and Richie of course) on BBC1/2 !

To think that back in 99 when Channel 4 began the coverage, people thought it was deadful that cricket was no longer being shown on the bbc and how channel 4 would ruin it.
Now if only they schedule the highlights at a reasonable time (and have highlights from the overseas tours) as they once did.

I hate the fact they are on so late. But, i don't think there highlight shows are that good, you get the main commentator, his name escapes me, wittering on over the top of the action and it really gets on my tits
