View Full Version : What speakers?

I've just bought a Medion MD40814 DivX Multi-region DVD player for £45 from amazon. Cheap but does the job for me.
Now I am thinking about getting some speakers for it, so I can watch movies in surround sound, possibly. Also listen to mp3 music downstairs.
I have Sky Plus if that makes any different and watch lots of stuff on there: sport, movies, music etc.
Would be nice if they could work together somehow so I don't have to keep on unplugging speaker cables from DVD Player to Sky Plus box.
What speaker set should I buy?
Also, I may get a Plasma tv in the future. Will this come with speakers anyway?
Regards,
Jon

Don't really know where to start! Depends on if I get a plasma and it would make any speakers I get redundant.

Doubtful, as the speakers that come with most plasmas are pretty hopeless.
Without a budget it's impossible to advise though.

Something very budget orientated for now. After all, my TV is old and cheap.

Do you have an AV receiver or Amp? From what i gather that is just a dvd player, no amplification.

I have no Amp. Not sure what an AV receiver is. I just have TV, DVD Player and SKY+.

Your dvd player wont output a surround signal to your speakers. It has no amplification, you need to conect it to either a packaged surround sound system with integrated amp or a surround sound receiver (a receiver is an amp with a tuner) or amp, and conect the speakers to that. You could conect your dvd player to this (http://www.acoustic-energy.co.uk/products/aego/aegoloudspeakers.html) and your up and running.
Or connect it to somthing like this (http://www.yamaha-audio.co.uk/homecinema/receivers/rx-v350/) to take care of processing and amplification then connect it to a set of speakers like this (http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/1859) .
I think for you the simplest solution would be somthing like this (http://products.sony.co.uk/productdetail.asp?id=4_57_1184) , there are cheeper systems available but since you talk about getting a plasma it would be daft to partner it with some of the supermarket rubbish which is available for £40-£60.
