View Full Version : Which film that everyone else seems to have do you have no intention of owning?
Following on from the other thread, is there a particular film that everyone else seems to have that you have no intention of owning, wanting to own, seeing or seeing again.
My personal would be "Army of Darkness" - it doesn't matter how many special editions with jangly bits they bring out - it won't make it a good film.

Errr..you may not like it, but it's not exactly a disc which almost everyone seems to own though.
They probably will do when the Special Ed comes out.
Does everyone own 6th Sense or Gladiator?

Good Choices - popular discs which I take it you have no intention of owning.

You're right. I've no intention of ever owning those discs. I'd put Matrix as well but my mate gave me his R1 copy when it wouldn't work on his player.

Just a thought, but what happened in 1978 that revolutionised pictures?

A lot of people seem to like Saving Private Ryan as a film/reference quality disc, & I wouldn't accept it if it was free.

Yeah that definetly gets attention and is extreme, but I haven't yet seen a film that I liked that was older than 1978. The 2 or 3 oldest films are from '78-79 so that's kind of a border for me. There are always exceptions of course, like Rocky, but its sequels stretch into the 90's so I don't count it as a '76 movie  :D

Interesting topic. There are lots of DVDs that everyone online says I should buy, as if it is the LAW that I MUST buy certain films even though I don't like them. So I realistically consider which films would be a personal waste of money. So... Films I have no intention of owning because I know I don't/won't like them:
The Godfather trilogy (not my kind of films at all, I know I wouldn't be into them).
Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness (I just don't like the films at all).
Withnail & I (I don't think it's out on DVD yet, but I won't buy it. I just don't understand what the fuss is about, it's pretty lame).
The Simpsons season 1 (the worst season, not worth owning).
Dark City (oddly treated with such reverence on DVD forums, I just don't like the film).

I have absolutley no intention of buying Terminator 2, no matter how ultimate it is.
The no good films made before 1978 thing is the biggest load of crap i've heard since the last Sterophonics album.

Men In Black - Unless they bring out the worm guy's edition I wouldn't touch this with a barge pole. Dull movie.

Star wars the Phantom Menace is my vote, I saw it at the cinema and Jar Jar Binks is enough to stop me from buying it.

Star Wars: TPM
A truly dire and dreary piece of crud.
Withnail & I
It was funny once. But I know too many actors who want to be like that, and quote from it endlessly.
pre-1977?
Hmm... What's the line from Free Enterprise about "the trouble with your generation is that they think sci-fi started in 1977." ?

I've enjoyed watching some of those movies but they do not have any rewatch value for me. As for Forrest Gump it's a dreadfull movie.

Rocky can't stand it. Never watched more than 10 mins of any of them, but they must have shifted a whole load of the boxsets.
...and I'm tempted to say 2001...

I agree with Star Wars, Godfather and 2001, but they all have sequels that are released in the 80s and 90's, so it's like with Rocky.
Don't mind me, it's just my own way of judging things :brickwall

This is one of those threads where people get to tell you how much they hate the films you love....how irritating. Oh well might as well join in.
Trainspotting (in fact any British film from the last 15 years)
Fight Club
Anything Disney
Anything animated
Any TV stuff
All 3 Scream movies
American Pie (or anything like it)
There's probably more but I'm getting sick just thinking of these movies...where's my Forrest Gump DVD i need a good movie fix....ahhhh that's better.

The Phantom Menace. Urgghhh. No matter how great the transfer or extras or sound, I wouldn't have the thing in the house. BADbadbadbadbadbadbaad film. The funny thing is, I HAD to see it at the cinema, and the same with the next one... It's probably one of the only cultural experiences that will be shared by a relatively huge section of the world, and no matter how bad they are (and Menace was awful) they have a massive influence. It's hard to think of a set of films with more impact on modern life. So see it at the pictures and don't buy the codswallop on dvd. :D
Withnail & I when it is released
I WOULD RATHER STICK RED HOT NEEDLES IN MY EYES THAN WATCH THAN FILM AGAIN
I'd have to say "The Rock"

Why do people think everyone has it is my question....
Oh, er, by the way. I do have it :-) Wish I knew what was so bad about it though. I think its a cute little story about getting it right. Can think of far worse.
Anyway, Popular discs I plan to no buy...
Saving Private Ryan - saw it, can see why people like it, but I have a problem with the thin story sandwitched in a moment in time "thing" that seems to happen alot. Would rather see a movie about D-day. (same for Pearle Harbor and Titanic .
Phantom Menace I wish lukas would just admit the experiment failed and get back to making movies. But i doubt it. Yeah the extra disc was nice to watch, but see no reason to have this on my shelves.
ET - not released yet, but no plans to buy. (assuming everyone will buy this one though) E.T. phone the CGI department. Just no interest. I also never got into this film first time around either. Will probably borrow and watch.

Great flick! What scares me is me and my friends talk like this, down the star trek references. The movie was nothing like I expected, but better. Can stand alone and be enjoyed by non scifi fans as a cute love story. But its a must for the shatner fan.
