View Full Version : Evil Dead 3
Hmm I see they've just released The Bootleg Edition!!
which version is the best to get? Obviously i'm not talking about the limited print canadian one... but out of the Anchor Bay Release and this new one... which is the better
I see that the new one only has Dolby Surround while the Anchor bay is THX cert 5.1????

If you're going to be completist about this, then you're going to need 2 discs - the bootleg cut which is actually the directors cut rereleased, & the theatrical cut - this one here (http://www.dv-depot.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=1&products_id=11769)
Over these 2 discs you get all the extras of the limited edition release.
(P.S they're both Anchor Bay releases)
Cheers... I might just get The older Anchor Bay one...
If you are interested in getting the older version from Anchor Bay, I managed to get a copy from www.dvdboxoffice.com a few weeks back.
Yes, it was dvdboxoffice that got me wondering as they've about 4 versions listed...
anyway.. my mate has some copies of the Anchor Bay one he is trying to get rid of... so i'll get one from him..

The Theatrical Version may be the better DVD transfer-wise, but the film isn't as good as the Director's cut. Basically the studio thought that Ash came across as being too dumb in the director's cut (Apparantly the morons hadn't seen Evil Dead 1&2 or they did & they didn't get it), so they ordered Raimi to re-edit the film, which he did. He wasn't happy about it though, hence the reason that only the Director's cut gets the commentary.
I was one of the lucky few who got to see the Director's cut long before the Theatrical version (I got it on pirate before it came out on the cinemas in the states) & I couldn't believe how much they butchered the film, some of the best gags are cut out!
The only saving grace for the Theatrical cut is the ending, which is funnier than the original ending.
Can anyone tell me: Does the Bootleg version feature both endings?

No it doesn't. The inital unlimited THX Anchor release does, but the film does not have branching.
My current understanding is :
THX Release = Disk 1 of LE
Director's LE = Disk 2 of LE = Bootleg edition
It's true that the video quality is pretty poor in areas of the Director's cut, but you do get deleted scenes (aswell as the addtiional footage), these are well worth seeing as they add to the plot and elaborate some points properly, and the legendary commentary !

Yes, you get the European Theatrical ending (the apocalyptic one). But I guess that's not what you mean ;)
The supermarket ending (US Theatrical) is only on the THX disc.
BTW, both endings are on this disc, just the supermarket one is in the film itself.
Hail to the King baby ! :D

Both times I saw it in UK cinemas, it featured the S-Mart ending. As far as I know, it was only when it got a video release that we saw the "new ending not seen in cinemas".
Well i've gone the whole Hog and Bought the THX release and the bootleg editions

Bootleg has a DD 5.1 track where the 2 disc LE DC disc only had DD 2.0 track.

That's been widely misreported. It is the 2.0 track on the Bootleg edition.
