View Full Version : Returning Dell Outlet Machine
Has anyone returned a Dell outlet machine within 7 days for a refund because it's faulty? Do they make a fuss or is it straight forward?

I had a bit of an experience with this.
I ordered at Dell Outlet PC and when it arrived it wouldn't boot. There was a message saying 'factory setup failed, fail system, do not reboot. Pass to EMR' or something like that.
I rang them up but rather than letting me send it back I got put through to technical support who didn't really have a clue either. I don't really know much about computers but they had me pulling all sorts of internal bits out over the phone and putting them back. I really got the impression they were just stabbing in the dark. In total I was on the phone for 4 hours!! I know I should have complained really but they eventually got it working so I decided to leave it.
Hi
I've bought several Dell machines for my office. In theory they work out of the box. In practice, you are better off to reformat the hard disk and reinstall windows and all the drivers. It's less trouble in the long run.
There is a small partition on the hard disk which includes some Dell diagnostics. I have scrubbed that off and included it in the C Drive. In retrospect, that was probably a mistake, and I would advise leaving that in place.

You've probably got a slightly better chance of winning the jackpot on the lottery.
I worked out that the average person in this country is a couple of hundred times more likely to die before the draw takes place than to win the jackpot.
I think you could die of frustration before getting Dell to fix this machine.
