Hi
I was just wondering if it possible on Win XP to have an animated wallpaper using an .avi file.
I would be grateful if you could help
Thanks

It must be possible, I just don't know how! My TV card lets me watch TV as my background, so the possibility is there. I need to have the TV software running though of course.

Just a shame I can't get a signal, white noise aint that great to watch!

Well you can display a HTML page as a background using active desktop - so in theory if you embed any animated file you want into a HTML page you're there...

Why you'd want an animated background running constantly is anyone's guess though.

Im sure I saw something on webattack.com the other day which used Active Desktop to display an AVI as your windows wallpaper ... wouldnt fancy it myself but head over there and do a search ...

Hijacking the thread

I noticed a screensaver on a machine, it looked like the default windows xp desktop, the grassy hill, blue sky.
But it was like a movie, the clouds rolling across seamlessly, very nice.

any idea of its name or whereabouts?

It was an official Microsoft one - although you can't get it from Micrsoft any more.

Seems to be available here:-

I wouldn't mind an animated desktop wallpaper if it was something like the one on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. Do you know the one I mean? It's like a lava lamp. Does anybody know where I could get screensaver/movie like that? :)

That Bubble wallpaper is decent- thanks!

I notice it installed a SWF file- so presumably you'd be able to make any flash movie as an animated wallpaper?

Damn straight they're good!
I know its not much use - but I remember seeing a couple of years ago a linux machine that had faux-3d backgrounds; you would get a beach sunset for example and the water would ripple! I think it was to showcase the power of the 3d cards at the time.

I couldn't download the Bliss saver through the link above but I've found it at the below (direct) link:
