View Full Version : Bond Dvds
i have 11 r2 bond films - i want to complete my collection but i was wondering if the R4 had the same 007 across the spine of the case as they are cheaper r4.
anyone have them on R4??
thanks
R4 doesn't have the logo :(
Only the R2 DVD's have the 007 across the spine

What is the best version of Goldeneye?, (Uncut, extras etc). And how is it that ITV can show the uncut, unclassified version of Goldeneye THREE times on the telly, but we can not buy it?
R4 is the best version of Goldeneye, its uncut, Pal & anamorphic,
& contains the same extras that the other regions have.
I think ITV showed the uncut version of GoldenEye four times.
I have the uncut R1 DVD - although if I was going to buy it tomorrow I would go for R4.

R2 France (and maybe Germany) is best if you've been collecting the UK ones. Uncut, PAL, anamorphic and has the gun logo  (pointless use of a new smilie, but hey) . Not cheap though.
R2 France Tomorrow Never Dies is also uncut (unlike the R2 and R4).
Only problem with the French versions are the cover is in French. The disc is multi-lingual though, you just pick 'English' at the start and it's just like the UK one (but uncut, which is really daft when you find it was mastered in the UK - those guys must laugh their heads off when they have to do R2 discs and do specific UK versions for all those cuts).
I got the French version of Licence to Kill just in case it might have been, but it appears to be the cut version like all the others (or at least I couldn't see anything more graphic, particularly the head-exploding scene... what am I supposed to see in the uncut version anyway?).

I thought the R4 was the only uncut version as it includes all the headbutts (a bit like the Matrix really)

As has been mentioned above about Goldeneye, ITV has shown Licence To Kill UNCUT before, but, alas, i didn't know this at the time as I would have videoed it. I only caught about 5 mins, but what I did see was the Felix Leiter as shark bait scene: this was considerably longer (if my weak memory serves me correct) and you actually saw his lower leg being bitten off. Not sure if the Head Exploding scene is much gorier, though I heard Sanchez's fiery demise is far more graphic. I've also heard of a scene where Sanchez's men cut out Lupe's lovers heart and present him with it during the pre-credit sequence, though I have no idea if this was ever filmed (it's in the novelisation). This gives Sanchez's later line "you like my little valentine?" some kind of sense.
I thought that the R1, French R2 and the R4 were uncut versions?
What's the difference anyway? I'm sure that the R1 is uncut.

R2 French version of Goldeneye definitely is uncut.
Most noticeable is the scene where Onatopp slides down from the helicopter. In the cut version she just has a tiff with Bond despite his semi-conscious state, but in the uncut version, Natalya gets up and distracts Onatopp where she then headbuts her saying "Wait for your turn", but this gives Bond the opportunity to get out of the 'crushing' situation ;). Makes far more sense.
Although apparently the UK DVD does include the scene (unlike the VHS which is why I noticed the difference), but doesn't include the headbut which would probably be even more confusing.
Other cuts listed here (http://us.imdb.com/AlternateVersions?0113189). Mostly headbuts.
The most annoying thing with Bond though is Licence to Kill. At long last the BBFC passed the uncut version when it was submitted in 2000, but thanks to a colossal screw up the cut version was distributed on DVD in all regions.
A cut version of OHMSS was also released on DVD for some bizarre reason (MGM stated it was the only version available which I find very hard to believe considering they'd only recently done a remaster on VHS of the full length version). Worse still is the cuts aren't even for censorship reasons, they're just bits missing by mistake!
There are others that were cut prior to release but the uncut footage probably no longer exists. Even the 'uncut' version of Licence to Kill may not be the most uncut possible because of pre-release cuts in the US.
Speaking of Bond any ideas if MGM are going to release all the James bond films in a Box set.

The box set has just come out hasn't it?
£299.99 quids:nuts:
I've just got GoldenEye (R1), Tomorrow Never Dies (R1) and The World Is Not Enough (R2).
When the new film, Bond 20 comes out, won't that mess up the whole "picture-Bond" thing?
I think I remember some site with very high quality scans available for download/printing, of replacement Bond covers. They could be used when you have a mixed region collection, and want them a little more aesthetic on the shelf. They were pretty good IIRC.
Problem is.. I have no idea where they were... unless it was in that 'secret' menu on The Digital Bits...?? No.. I can't remember. Sorry!

Boxed set is out on the 5th (Monday), much to the annoyance of all those who collected the previous ones and were promised if they collected enough tokens, they'd get a box, only to be told we'd now have to buy the whole boxed set instead.
Petition on this here (http://www.petitiononline.com/JBBOX/petition.html).
