Try an online scan: http://housecall.trendmicro.com

I've tried trend and symantec both of which won't scan my pc. I aslo downloaded stinger but it didn't detect anything. Looks like i'll have to to a format and reinstall windows XP :(

I wouldn't format yet there could be any number of options :) Open task manager and see what processes are running, end anything that looks suspicious and if it is a virus that may well free things up.

Also you can go to start, run, type msconfig, go to the start up tab and see what is listed in there, and remove anything that looks dodgy (it's worth checking these as you won't recognise some things that may be important) - just wack the name in google and you'll find info instantly. Once done this will require a reboot.

When you say your PC is being "wierd" how about a little more info? Specific symptoms may indicate what the problem is :)

Have you tried running Windows in safe mode (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001060608000039) instead of regular start-up - run Norton AV from there? If it is has been corrupted in some way (as some viruses are known to disable well known AV applications), then you can also try the offline version of the Trend micro scanner.

It doesn't need to be installed just downloaded to a folder along with the separate signature file (which needs to be unzipped in the same folder).

Sysclean (http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/tsc/sysclean.com)
Latest virus pattern file (http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/pattern/lpt899.zip) (June 1st pattern file, 899)

Of course, it may not be a virus - if you give more details, you'll probably get some more help.

The Symptoms are, as far as i can make out: PC running slow. Installed Norton Internet Security 2003. Cannot update definitions, cannot open menu to perform a full system scan and i just tried to uninstall it but it told me that it was already running so it wont let me uninstall either. Tried all this in Safe and Normal mode but to no avail.
