Hi,

I have just got myself a 2nd PC so we now have 3 PCs 1 downstairs and 2 upstairs.

The Router/Modem is downstairs and has a 2 network cables coming from it just now, 1 going to the downstairs PC and one running upstairs into my PC.

Now I want to hook my new PC up to the router but without having to run another messy cable up the stairs. (no wireless just now too much money).

So I have a had a look about and found this (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X3NwZWNpZmljYXRpb25z&product_uid=8894) , so it looks like I could have this upstairs with the cable coming from the router connecting into this, and 2 cables coming out of this going into the LANs on my 2 PCs.

So I can have both PCs connected the the internet and have a small network as well.

Does this all make sense, and will this work with the above network device??

Thanks in advance
Frazer

it should work (as will a hub), basically it enables a number of connections to one wire.

thats how some networks are connected, one wire to each office then a hub/switch for a number of computers to connect.

You can indeed use that switch. You may have to pay attention to the uplink/MDI-x setting ( although the device downstairs may be autosensing and provide the crossover automatically ). Whichever way it happens, you're covered.
