Séance
Do you believe in the spirit world?
At 10.35pm on Monday 31 May, Derren is bringing together 12 specially selected members of the public to attempt a televised séance. And he wants you to join in, too.

To take part you will need: empty glass, candle, pen & paper, letters of the alphabet.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is anyone actually going to take part? I've always been warned away from seances. :suspect:

I think I will.
Obviously seances are a load of B.S, but it will be interesting to be part of a Derren Brown esperiment/trick/mentalism act.

He does this in his live show, it's very very good.

I'll be tuning in for this, sounds very interesting! What do you mean by 'letters of the alphabet' though? Like a Quija board?

Sounds like a load of rubbish to me - but there will be plenty of dumb people out there who end up scaring themselves.

Yes, like an Ouija board.

Yes, it'll probably be explained at the start of the show.

It's not about getting scared. He's debunking the myth of seances and contacting "the spirit world" and simply showing how a magician can create the same effects, thus exposing mediums as nothing more than fraudsters.

My apologies. :) Sounds interesting. I know too many people who believe in the spirit world. :cuckoo:

Remember that UK TV has rules that concerns seances or ouija boards.

I'm not much of a fan of Derren Brown but I'll definitely be checking it out.

I believe pieces of paper with the letters on them will do.

I'd be tempted to have a shot myself, although the wife probably won't let me for fear of inviting evil spirits into the house

Or just tell her the spirits will be mad at her if she doesn't let them in :D

You need a pen and paper, a wine glass and 26 pieces of paper with the letters on the alphabet on, and a lot of optimism that it's gonna work for you!

Anyone watch it? Only caught the last 20 minutes and it looked like it was a hoax set up by Brown to prove that it's a load of bull

Which indeed it was (as that was after all the point of the show!) - and a pretty effective one too! The techniques he used to make the participants believe what was happening was real are pretty groovy - using a combination of myth, historical location, misdirection and planted suggestion he had 'em right where he wanted them!
People will believe what they want to believe and he proved this point very well.

OT: I'd still LOVE to know what he does down the line when someone picks up the ringing telephone on his Friday shows and falls asleep right there!
