Best DVD player for £300

You've probably hear it before but . . .

Anyone have suggestions for the best multi-regional play for £300 ?

I have a 3:4 TV do you know if this player can zoom the picture to fit better or will it only be wide screen ?

The Pioneer 444 or 545 from Upgrade Heaven.

With a 4:3 TV viewing widescreen you can eliminate borders by either stretching the picture to fit (yuck) or use pan and scan (nearly as yuck). Live with borders top and bottom for widescreen or get rid of the 4:3 TV and buy a widescreen TV and live with borders of varying sizes or not at all as you please.

Having researched the market a couple of weeks ago to upgrade my existing DVD player I fixed a budget of £500 deliberately to include the new Sony 900 but decided that as I didn't listen to that much music and was unlikely to buy any SACD's to buy the Pioneer 545.

It is excellent with movies, pretty good with cd's and had two scart sockets so that I could daisychain the digibox.

I paid £279 for a multi region version from avland and am very pleased.

Check out the bargain forums, you`ll pick up the DV545 that everyones recommending for £250, or the slightly cut down Dv444 from £180:)

I go along with everyone else, I'm delighted with my Pioneer 545. Great picture, sound and best of all - it plays MP3s beautifully. Highly recommed the UpgradeHeaven offer :)
