I'm looking to buy a notebook PC, but am not really sure where to start. Budget is between 600 & 700. Can anyone recommend a good model, or a good discount supplier?
Asus would be recommended, I'm not sure if they have models in that price range, I think they do.
Becareful of budget laptops, if you go too cheap you can end up with a really naff machine.

I got a Compaq Presario 2800 (2nd hand) which is pretty sturdy with a good enough spec and big sceen for dvd viewing.
HP do refurbs of their laptops via eBay, and you'll pick up a decent spec model for about 5 or 600 with warranty. They're not exactly the cutting edge, but I've yet to be disappointed by Compaq kit. You might find people bidding up to almost only about £100 cheaper than the shop price for the brand new item though, so watch for that as that's crackers.
I kept away from the "budget" laptops just because they felt/looked cheapy.

Dell Outlet is your friend.
I picked up two Laitude D400s Pentium M 1.4Ghz for £622 delivered today.
:D
You can easily get a nice Inspiron 8600 for under £700. Last one I bought was an 8600 Pentium M 1.7GHz for £630 delivered and that was only that price because of the delivery (which is free again at the moment).
Approx how long is delivery from dell outlet on laptops?

There's an advert in today's Daily Mail for an Acer TravelMate 254 for £599 at Staples. It's a Bank Holiday Special, £200 off apparently. From what I remember it's a P4 2.8, 256mb, DVD re-writer, 15" screen etc.. Limited to one per customer. I'm quite interested and might take a look later tonight. The only problem is I've just won an auction for an older, cheaper, less specced laptop on ebay.

Im pretty sure its all down to pot luck mate.
Sometimes there can be 160 or so inspirons on the outlet site and then there can be only 20 or 30.

Pot luck I'm afraid. You need to spend a morning at your computer pressing F5 and just hope. Plenty of bargains to be had though.
To follow up my D400s yesterday I grabbed an absolute tip top spec Inspiron 8600 today for £670. All in all it would cost £1800 if I'd ordered it new today.

Patience.

try searching the business section of the outlet, often seems more 8600's on there.

There is no separate business section.
