Never mind The Phantom Menace, Star Trek:The Motion Picture directors edition rocks.

I got home to find it waiting for me last night.

The film looks and sounds great, and the extras are pretty decent too.

Three documentaries, I have only watched the first one but it has footage from Star Trek Phase II.

This for me is the most exciting DVD release yet.

I can only hope TWOK gets similar treatment next year.

:D

Superb, footage from Phase II! I didn't know any existed!

I've got extra footage from TWOK and Generations so they can at least do SE's of those.

The phase II stuff is weird.

Its test footage mostly, Xon doing some lines at a console.

They are all in original series uniforms or something very close to them, and Ilea has a bizarre half shaved head.

Personally, they can shove this SE until they commit to anamorphic SE's for the rest of them and don't mess us about by doing an SE now and then next year do SEs of all the others but also revamp the current SE for TMP making us buy it again (or worse still, like they did with widescreen VHS versions, make us buy a boxed set to get them).

:p

What do people think about the quality of the transfer? The review I read on digital bits said that all the original marks on the print were still there and hadn't been cleaned up. I thought I'd wait to see what others thought of it before I bought it so any views gratefully received.

Er, sorry to bust your bubble guys, but i got this yesterday and i must say i was disappointed with this so-called 'director's edition'. To me the film seemed the same old empty, sllllllooooooooooooww descent into boredom that it always was. Perhaps i just got my hopes up too much that the revisions would improve it drastically. And yes, the transfer is also a little on the grainy side, though the 5.1 does justice to the film's wonderful score. Nice to see a Trek film with some decent extras finally too, but on the whole, i'd say this is one for the dedicated only. :(

Enjoyed this, my "least fave of the Star Trek films". 4/5 for sound (some 'dodgy' sounding dialogue at times) and 4/5 for the picture too (nothing too bad, just some grain and dirt)

They really did do a very impressive job with the updated effects, totally seamless integration.

Got through the featurettes yesterday, the movie today..... think I'll do the commentary at the w/e.
