View Full Version : Deep Red - Anchor Bay questions
As the search facility is still down:( I am unable to see whether anyone else has posted anything about this.
I have checked the Anchor Bay site, it appears to be out.
Does anyone have any comments about the film?
IE: Quality, extras, where to get it etc.
Thanks.

You want opinions on the DVD only or the film as well? Personally i think it's a great film & Argento's best work.
The AB disc is considered to be very good indeed transfer wise. I've ordered a copy from TAU's free shipping weekend, but it hasn't been processed yet :(. Still, it only cost me £11.70!:)
Here's DVD File's (http://www.dvdfile.com/software/review/dvd-video_2/deepred.htm) review of the AB disc. Splatterhouse (http://www.splatterhouse.net/splatterhouse.htm) have also reviewed it, but I can't link directly to their review.
As for the cheapest place? ABsound have it for £14 delivered, but it's not in stock at the moment. TAU have it for £14 as well, but you're also in for a long wait from them. DVDBoxOffice do it for £13 delivered, so I'd get it from them.
EDIT: Just noticed that DVD Times have got a review (http://www.dvdtimes.org.uk/index.cgi?page=Review&id=365&story=2325) of the AB disc up.

And here (http://www.dvdreview.com/fullreviews/deep_red.shtml) is another glowing review courtesy of DVDReview - good disc, a highly recommended purchase.
I have placed it on order from dvdboxoffice. Now begins the long, long, wait. :(
Thanks for the info.

The transfer is quite simply staggering considering both the age of the film and the challenge of reconstructing the full version - visually, it's almost perfect (even minor blemishes are kept to a minimum), the colours are gorgeous, it's presented at the correct 2.35:1 aspect ratio and it's anamorphically enhanced.
The soundtrack is somewhat peculiar in that if you select the English-language option, some scenes are in Italian (this is because the English dub was made after the film had been shortened for the international market), though if that's too distracting you can watch the whole thing in Italian with subtitles.
Extras are somewhat basic, but given the quality of the main feature presentation this is a very minor quibble.

LOL, the same happened to me when it was on Film 4 recently. I actually enjoyed the film, but would have preferred the alien/nanobot/chase movie of the same name ;)
On a similar theme;) does anyone know if the reissued discs of OPERA have been sent to suppliers yet, because i really want this film.
