....from Unbeatable.co.uk, and very nice it is too! Fantastic picture (via RGB) and really nice features. I have a couple of questions though:

1) How do I access the service menu? The geometry seems a little bit off in all picture modes, in that it bends inwards noticeably at the bottom. Also, it is a little skewed, although this is far less obvious. Is it reasonable to assume I can fix these faults myself, or should I get an engineer to fix it? If I screw it up further, shouldn't Unbeatable (or Philips) replace it for me?

2) When I first switched the set on I calibrated it using the THX Optimode section of the R1 Phantom Menace. When adjusting the contrast, I first set it to maximum then gradually decreased it until I was happy. However, after a short while the white squares on screen began to take on a pink shade in one part of the screen, and checking the TV menu I realised it was not on the disc, but was effecting the whole screen. Worried, I turned the TV off then on again, and the pink glow had gone. It happened again straight after, but with a blue patch in a slightly different place. I turned it off and left it for a while, and it hasn't done it since. Could this possibly be the TV warming up, as I couldn't locate any magnetic sources nearby?

3) On AV2 (both regular and S-Video settings) I get white specks appearing occasionally, like interference from something nearby. It happens whether there is a signal passing through it or not. Strangely, AV1 (on either regular or RGB) doesn't have the problem. Could it just be interference from something outside (I'm by a main road), or is this another 'fault'? Like I said, it seems like interference, but with no rhyme or reason. I mean, there's no antenna connected to the TV, so where could it be coming from?

Apart from the above points, all is great. If I watch DVD via RGB on AV1 and ignore the slight picture bending at the bottom (and as long as the pink and blue areas don't reappear!) I don't have a problem, but I'd like to get it sorted......just thought, I only got the coloured areas on AV2 via S-Video, so could the whole socket be up the creek?

If you're not totally happy with it get it sorted now, much easyer than in a month when you realy get p' off with it.

AFAIK - horizontal bowing is impossible to fix in the service menu, the gun needs to be adjusted internally. That's if it's possible to fix at all, of course. Good luck in getting it sorted as 90% of all WS TVs I've seen have one thing or another wrong with them geometry wise, including mine. :/

I've got one of these too, so just thought I'd throw my tuppence in.

1) No obvious geometry faults on mine at all (picture bends in by a few millimetres in the top left, but I wasn't expecting perfection at this price). Maybe I just got lucky though

2) Can't say I've noticed this either. Where was the patch of colour?
Once or twice whilst watching the BBC news I'd thought that Michael Burke's face was taking on rather a unnatural pink/purple hue in some places. Getting paranoid that I'd need a Degausser I flipped channels but the colours looked ok there. For a better test I switched to my DVD player start-up (pure white screen just a Pioneer logo) but no purple splodges. Flipped back to BBC1 and Michael Burke still looked like he was about to bust a blood vessel. I just put it down to the lighting in the studio. If I see it again I'll try turning the telly on/off. You've got me paranoid again!

3) I live right on a road and get interference crackles and spots whenever something big goes by no matter what AV/RF channel I'm on . I had this on my last TV too, so I've not thought it out of the ordinary.

OK, cheers for the info everyone...update:

1) Geometry probs still there, and I need to get them sorted...a technician, methinks, or just send it back and wait weeks for a new one? What's the best way of replacing an item of this size and weight that I'm not happy with? It's not like I can just bung it in the post-box.

2) The coloured area has only reared it's ugly head once after I posted, and not since. Then again, I've moved it slightly and also haven't messed with the settings since, so maybe that's why I've not seen the fault.

3) Well, it turns out that the 'interference' isn't just limited to the one scart...it happens on both, just not on the RGB one when there's a signal (strange that having the lead connected might stop the interference, but I guess it's because my hefty IXOS scart is heavily insulated). So I guess it is just cars passing, which would explain why there's hardly any white specks in the middle of the night! :D

Also noticed...loud hiss from TV speakers when no scart is connected. For instance, if I'm on AV2 and there's no scart attached to AV2, I'll get a hiss, but not when there is a scart present.

Oh dear, I need some sleep!

Si,

After reading this you got me sufficiently paranoid to keep an eye out for this. I saw it once this morning for the first time in weeks, but cycling through the AV-inputs made it disappear. It was about halfway down on the right-hand side of the screen, about 3 inches in from the edge. Defintely not to do with a magnetic source as my speakers are all shielded.

I was just wondering if you sent it back, or got an engineer out to look at it. (I can imagine the scene; Engineer arrives, "Hello, sit down! The pink blob should appear within a week or so!").

It doesn't bother me, I can put up with a few seconds of pink once every couple of weeks. I'm just curious.

about those pinky/green blobs you get..

i used to have a thomson widescreen tele and it would get them a lot! ussually if a bright picture had been on the screen for a few minutes. we got the TV replaced with the same model twice and it kept happening.. i think it is something to do with magnets, but we now have a Sharp TV and it never does it..

a whole screen of white should bring it out pretty quick.. playing the Untracked course with SSX on PS2 did it everytime..

Thinking about it, the times when it's appeared it has been whilst there's been a bright background. Cheers for the tip. I haven't got a PS2, but I'll give 1080 Snowboarding a go on my luvverly old N64 and have a butchers.

Hmmm, indecision! I love the TV in general... a bargain at the price. Is it worth getting it changed just because of an intermittent fault that appears once in a blue moon?...

NO! I think I'll keep it!

All tellys seem to have some problems according to this forum. At least this one has only a tiny problem. Phew!

Cheers,
John
