Right heres the deal, I want to buy a DVD player but moneys a bit short so i have to turn to the catalogue, (so Limited Choice)

I can Choose From..

Alba DVD 103 (http://www.hifichoice.co.uk/review_read.asp?ID=796),
Philips DVD622 (http://cgi.catsdirect.force9.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Shop_Philips_53.html),
Hitachi DVP315 (http://store.europe.yahoo.com/courts/12031.html),
Sanyo DVD7201 (http://store.europe.yahoo.com/qed-uk/1147201s.html),
Sony DVP NS 300 (http://www.techtronics.com/uk/shop/50-sony-dvp-ns300-multi-region-dvd-player.html),

The Player I Choose MUST be Multi Region (or Hackable)
MP3 Playability Is Preferable (But Not Essential)

So Do any of you own/used to own/recommend any of the above?

Helpppppppppppppppp;)

Alba? Ugh!

I'm a bit of a Sony freak, so I would probably settle for that one, but that's me (although I'm breaking with my Sony addiction and getting a Pioneer DV-747 in December)

Is this your first player or somting?

Indeed, although the sales staff will probably tell you that it is.

He could always buy the Sony from the company in the supplied link.

Did you have a DVD-ROM on your laptop before then Glen, or is this your first foray into buying DVD's?

glen - If you have to buy from the catalogue - 5p a week for a million weeks :p - then forget the Sony as you'd have to send it away to be chipped for multiregion playback, which will cost £50+ (Incidentally, my local hifi shop were selling these for £170 m/r the other day!! )

Dunno about the others, but I wouldn't be seen dead with an Alba in the house. Now if it was Amstrad....

BTW, if your a bit strapped for cash now, then FFS don't get a DVD player - I'm rapidly going, if not already, bankrupt.

:(

:p

I'd personally go for one of 'name brands' from www.upgradeheaven.com - I think they have credit facilities now, too. Although for some reason if you apply for strap, I have visions of the episode where Homer applies for credit to buy the camper truck running through my mind. :D :D

Why not apply for an Egg credit card? 0% interest on purchases for 1st 6 months. After 6 months, transfer it to the NatWest credit card at 5.9% APR for balances FOR THE LIFE OF THE DEBT. Much much cheaper than buying from the 'catalogue', as I keep trying (unsuccessfully!) to tell my sister-in-law... :( :(
