Don't think this has bee posted anywhere else, but looking on the BBFC website today Robocop: Theatrical version, Robocop: DC (26 secs longer than former), Robocop 2 and 3 have all been passed with all previous cuts waived. Take a look at the recent decisions at www.bbfc.co.uk

The original UK cinema and video versions of Robocop were the same as the cut 'R' rated version in the US. The Director's Cut hasn't been submitted in this country before but was also passed uncut.

The orginal UK release of Robocop 2 was cut significantly. According to the BBFC website there were 31 secs of cuts to the cinema release with afurther 4 secs on video. However the run-time of the newly classified uncut version is 113m 40s compared to 111m 1s of the original cut UK version and it can be seen that the new version is substantially longer than previous 35 secs of cuts listed on the website. What does this mean?....who knows.

And Robocop 3 has had its 3 secs of cuts waived. I believe this cut was of nunchuku being carried by a gang member so now the BBFC have eased up with regards to this weapon it makes sense that this cut is reinstated.

Does anyone know what MGMs current plans are with these titles?

Although having seen several extras appearing at the BBFC, this bodes well for the upcoming UK dvd releases of these titles. Hopefully a nice boxset is in the works :D . Even though Robocop 3 is a massive pile of ******** I liked the 2nd and 1st is excellent, especially the DC.

Looks like my Criterion Robocop: DC might start to get dusty :D

Does this mean the Director's Cut will be exactly the same as the version on the Criterion release??
And can we presume it will be anamorphic, unlike the Criterion which has put me off buying some Criterion titles?

I thought the DC was 41 seconds longer than the R version? PAL speedup?

And now the question is, how long is the window of oppurtunity to sell my CC edition for an outrageous price to some daft bugger before the DVD arrives?

On the criterion version I believe it DID have the directors cut on there. The theatrical version is the one thats been passed with no cuts.
The theatrical cut does NOT have the directors cut footage on.

I think. ;)

Well, I don't think I'll be getting rid of my Criterion copy of RoboCop in a hurry, although it would be nice to get a decent version of Robo 2 - the R1 disc, although uncut, has a terrible print.

I thought the additional scenes that were re-instated in the Criterion Director's Cut were going to be included as 'Deleted Scenes' in the forthcoming Special Edition.... oh well, we shall see.

They'll probably still end up releasing a cut version, just to be superceded three months later by Robocop: UE in a nice metallic case.
