View Full Version : Star Wars Episode I (Region 2) Disc 2 Problems
Does anyone else have problems with Disc 2 of The Phantom Menace (R2)? The main problem seems to be when watching the deleted scenes documentary. If the documentary branches to a deleted scene that contains subtitles for 'alien' translation (eg The extended pod-race grid sequence) and then branches back to the documentary to explain the next scene, I cannot get rid of the subtitles! The subtitles seem to work fine during the scene ie switching off and on between English and other dialogue, but then are continuously on the screen for the next documentary section.
Am I alone with these problems? Is it a faulty disc or have other Sony owners had the same problem? If so is R1 any better?

Yeah, happened for 2 of the scenes on my Sony 735, though on the 2nd time, pressing the subtitles button got rid of them!.
I'm not too bothered though, as I'll doubt I'll ever watch those parts again. I've watched most of the stuff on that disc now and didn't come across any other 'problems'.

Ditto here on a Sony 325 on the R4 version. Could be a Sony thing? (what - a disc with problems on Sony! Surely not, Sony is perfect :( ). It seems I can get around it though by turning off the subtitles whilst watching the documentary. Slight hassle but I can live with it.
The only other thing that irates me is the end credits of the film, where it carried the DTS logo...
not on my damn disc is there DTS :mad::mad:
That said, the DD track is fantastic, but still... :(
Minor imperfections on an otherwise fantastic set of discs.
I certainly wouldn't 'downgrade' to crappy NTSC R1 just because of the subtitle problems.

It's not a Sony fault it's the Disc.
I get the same problem with my Phillips 710 player. I just turned the subs off using the subtitle button on my remote. Hardly a major problem.
I have problems with disc 2 as well. It sticks at the Swedish copyright notice. I can only get in by playing around with my remote. Once in, I cant play the deleted scenes documentary as it sticks each time a deleted scene comes up. I've tried playing the scenes on their own but still can't play two of them. I have a Panasonic A340 which is definately showing its age now. Looks like it may be time to think of a new machine.
