I'm thinking of going with Pipex but I just want to know if it's best to go with the adsl equipment they supply for free or buy something seperate. Also, where would you stand if monthly prices were to drop shortly after signing up, would you still be obligated to pay the price in the contract when signing or would it be possible to get the price reduced?

I've had Pipex for a couple of months now, still using the USB modem they supplied (and their filters work great too) so to start with I'd go with what they give you, isn't it £17 or something for the modem/filter starter pack?

Pretty sure you'd get the reduced price if they did drop it, my contract is monthly (with a one-off 3 month charge if you close the account within 12 months) so I'd expect to pay what everyone else pays if it changed.

So, I say get the starter pack as it's everything you need as a newb (make sure you have a software firewall though). If you'll want more than one PC connected then start looking at routers.

If you have a look here (http://www.solo.pipex.net/xtreme-solutions/) , you'll see that all Pipex accounts now come with a free modem and filters. :) I've been on their 512kb since Friday, even though I'm not officialy activated until tomorrow. :) This will be changing to 1mb at the end of the month!!! ;)

is there any difference in terms of speed if you use the supplied USB modem from pipex or buy an ethernet ADSL modem ?
