Im having probs with my machine.

Everytime i have to reboot XP it gets as far as the Windows XP logo, the freezes on a black screen and then my monitor loses signal...
So, I restart my machine and it sometimes freezes whilst doing the initial tests identifying what drives I have. Other times, it gets past that screen and attempts to startup by giving me a range of options. Safe Mode, safe mode with networking, last good settings and start windows normally.
If you try to start normally it sometimes crashes as earlier described or it may ( whilst very rare ) start normally.

These crashes are doing my head in and most of the time I have to use the safe mode with networking ( like im doing now ) just to get things done. Is this a virus??

My AVG doesnt detect anything and zone alarm hasnt sensed anything new. So I cant tell if its a hidden process?

The only thing new I noticed is that upon inital startup screens numbers appear in bottom right of screen 8F, then 91, 92 then on the next screen 00.

Please help!!

AMD XP2500, running windows XP.

What does it say in Event Log

I was having something similar recently and it was being caused by the true vector service that's part of zone alarm, un-installed it and everythings fine now!

I recently upgraded Zone Alarm so I'm not sure if it was caused by the update but I'll be installing the original version I got tomorrow and hopefully my pc will be alright again :)

Sorry Chris, where do I find the event log?

Padwah, May give that a try. Im tempted to try a complete different firewall.

Shall I just say bugger it and do a fresh install??
