Just got these from www.amazon.de and both are a huge improvement on any other region. Both discs are anamorphic with very nice transfers from the skim through I’ve done. Both have optional subtitles (hurrah) and a range of extras, some better than others.
Before I mention them if you’re going to slag Cutthroat Island in terms of it being a good film or not - don’t. I could care less. This is a fine disc with the aforementioned 16x9 transfer and the usual EPK "Making of". Where it really shines however is the rough behind the scenes footage of alternate takes etc and the commentary track from Harlin, to be found on no other disc. He’s very upfront about the film bombing: how often do you hear that kind of honesty! There are also interviews, storyboards and a trailer - Highly recommended.
Breakdown is a little lighter on the features but does have a great transfer to appreciate. There are multiple trailers and an EPK which as far as I can tell is in German only. I’ll update if I find out the extras have English subs. - Also highly recommended.
I would’ve posted this in an existing Breakdown thread but finding it without the search feature was more effort than I could be bothered with.
Hope this is of some use & if anyone knows of other German gems along these lines please post them here.
