is a real DVD player much better than PS2 DVD?

i'm looking to get a DVD player.. i can spend upto about 350quid, probably a pioneer.. but is it really going to look much better than playing them on a PS2? i'm only really concerned about the picture quality..

I've never seen the DVD playback on a PS2, but I would have thought that a dedicated machine would give a superior picture.

For £350 you can buy a ps2 & an LG42(whatever it is)

The picture quality from the LG will give most £400 players a run for their money.

I've seen mixed results from the ps2's dvd playback.
