Can someone give me some hints as to what to do / where to go?

I'm at the bit where you land on the first planet and are based in the appartment. I have robbed some credits and got the playing cards but not sure what to do next?

It's outside the apartment block, there's not a particularly large area to explore so you should be able to find the right places.

It's definitely worth sticking with the game, the first planet is definitely the dullest, particularly this first bit of it.

Yeah I think its a bug - played the game once before and it worked - played the game a second time and they started attacking me. Well, knowing that all else failed, and being extremely EDITED off, I kicked their bu@@ to kingdom come !!! Hail to the king baby ! Is this game as good as the Dark Forces series (up to and including Jedi Knight II)?

Or not worth the bother?

Far better I'd say, I'd put it in the top ten X-Box games, maybe even top 5. Reviews tend to agree as well.

Well they are totally different types of games, but KOTOR is better, but it would depend if you like RPGs or not.

In answer to the first post you have to talk to a female sith in the bar. If done right she will invite you to a party at one of the appartment blocks, where they all pass out and you can get the Sith armour you need.

Theres a nearby male sith for if you chose a female character and want to do the less violent route ;).

For the bean counters, the beat with sticks approach earns a few more XP.

I'm dont normally play these fantasy-based RPGs and to start with i wasn't hugely impressed by this game, but after a little while, you really get into it, the game itself, the story (should be a basis for another star wars movie trilogy), one of the best games i've played in the last year, probably the best Star Wars game ever imo

Definitely the best SW game since TIE Fighter for making you feel part of the Star Wars universe. The story, although not really being something original, really does pull you in and the integration of RPG elements is executed superbly.

KOTOR is ABSOLUTELY worth the bother :D especially if you're a star wars fan. Like other posts have said your enjoyment of it will vary but if you're an RGP fan and a star wars fan, you'll love it. It may look 3rd person action but that's only because the combat engine and it's turn style play is so well done that the animations look almost like the Jedi Knight games in terms of smooth flowing sabre dueling and combination of force powers.

Bioware (the company that make this and the Neverwinter Night games) continualy support and update their games with various patches for their PC version, and this game is huge. After about 30 hours play i'm still only on the 4th world out of about 7. So it'll give Star Wars fans bags of value.

I'd definitely reccomend it. It deserved to win GAME OF THE YEAR 2003.

Been playing the PC version for a couple of days now, and am just leaving the first planet.

I agree with most of the comments about the game - it is very good, but it seems more of an adventure with combat than a proper RPG TBH (like Baldur's Gate or Ultima), there dosen't seem much in the way of tactics for combat, it's fairely linear and quite simple to play - although that could just be the first planet bit.

29-04-2004, 17:23
The game was coded in such a way that you can get down 'n' dirty with teh RPG side of thimgs (Stast) etc. as much or as little as you like, so as to appeal to more than just Dungeons and dragons purists.

It's a fantastic game which is most definitely not linear and can last you anything from 30 to many, many hours depending on how many side quests etc. you end up doing.

Totally worth the time you need to finish it. I played it through the first time within two weeks where every waking moment was spent becoming a Jedi - sad, yes, I know

Enjoy the game and persevere!!!

I was the same, spent over 50 hours over 2-3 weeks becoming a jedi and trying to resist the dark side (which i managed to do in the end), but next time i have the distinct feeling i may get seduced by it! ;)

Bit of help needed please.

I'm on Tatooine, i've completed pretty much all the quests (sand people enclave, kraytt dragon etc), but i'm stuck on the Nico one - I assume you have to win all the swoop races, but how? I've won the 1st but cannot get my time down low enough for the 2nd.

I hate these bits tbh, if i wanted an arcade game I'd buy one:(

neilalford
06-05-2004, 16:46
You don't need to win the races to continue, if you've got the starmap just go back to ship, head to navigation and fly to another planet.

Zath
06-05-2004, 16:51
I was the same, i gave up on the swoop racing very early on, got too frustrated with it, thankfully it wasnt vital to advancing.

Mr Nice
06-05-2004, 19:05
One bit of advice for swoop racing is to lower your graphic settings. In the normal part of the game you can get away with fairly low framerates and not really suffer ill effects, but in swoop racing a low fps makes it far more difficult to control, you tend to oversteer a lot. In the normal parts I crank it all up to look pretty and let the fps languish in the low 20's/high teens, want 40+ for swoop racing though.

As said though, Swoop Racing is almost entirely optional, and even the compulsory one is severely bent in your favour because your first time is always just beaten, so as long as you don't accidentally do an obsolute screamer on your first run, you have to do little more then beat your first time on the second run, which shouldn't be that difficult.

pompeyfan
06-05-2004, 20:21
I tried lowering the graphics detail - but still no good, I need to knock another 0.5 secs off to win tier 2:(

Well I gave up on the swoop races - Tatooine (won 2nd) and Manaan (didn't bother), but am stuck again.

How do you defeat Malak? As soon as he gets down to half strength he heals himself from the Jedi's. I'm a light-side Jedi using a light-saber in each hand and have the starforge robe.

Cheers

Cheers Basically by destroying the captive Jedi. A massive range of offensive force spells will work, basically any which inflict damage (including the destroy droid line, that zaps the machinary they are in presumably), I think the choke/kill line doesn't work though, and the force push line doesn't work either. The force breach line does work, even though it doesn't inflict damage. Darkside characters should note that drain life completely refills both your life and force meter when used on the Jedi. If your lightside and want to act "in character", destroy droid or throw saber are the powers to use, they peacefully destroy the tubes allowing the Jedi to become on with the force, all the darkside powers turn them into burnt shrivelled husks ;).The chances of not having a force power which will work is very low (although not technically impossible). So basically, as soon as he uses one up (you can't do it earlier since the Jedi show as blue not red until then) leg it and zap them all, force speed is obviously handy to stay ahead. You will then have to slap Malek down a second time obviously. If you really don't have any powers which will work, then it will be a bit of a long slog, but it's not impossible.

22-05-2004, 20:52
Cheers, I've got the throw lightsaber skill, but none of the others - playing as lightside but didn't bother with droid powers.

When I got to the end of this game I was in the situation where no powers I had would work (the way you have to beat the boss). I wasn't very happy that the game could allow this to happen, even if only for a few percent of gamers :(

Still, excellent game for the rest of it ;)

d80s0q But its still not impossible (and really lazy people who use autolevel will always have throw light saber), just takes a bit longer. Usually you end the game with a pheonomenal amount of stims and med packs don't forget, and a character with few enough force powers to have "avoided" one of the ones needed, will probably be a Guardian, which is the best class for putting the slap on him.

I've finally got round to playing this properly after nearly a year of owning. Can't say I'm loving it, but it is fun. I've just reached Tatooine and am doing a bit of exploring. The difficulty level is pretty good throughout, and I enjoy deciding what new skills/feats/powers I'm going to have each time I level up. Shame I'm not particularly good at it all though, when I was in the strange ruins on Dantooine I totally forgot to use weapons against the droids that would actually harm them (ie. ion blasters)! So ended up taking a good 5 minutes to kill each one!

Only drawback is I'm finding parts a bit long-winded, and I lose interest.

i am really bad at turn based games but got through the game quite easily (on easy letting the computer do most of the fighting) untill the final boss, took months to come up with how to finally beat him plant as many mines as possible on the floor before talking to him, then after the talk lead him over the mines, whack him a bit and he has the second talk, run arround killing all the things, then run away and throw a sticky grenade at him, then pound him with more grenades and sticky ones when he is about to start moving again, in the end i came out relatively unscathed :D

I agree with this, I enjoyed the sequel almost as much as the first one.
I don't know if it was just my copy however but one annoying thing was it suffered serious lag/screen freezing when more than a couple of enemies were on screen, especially if all were wielding lightsabers.
Definitely worth playing though if you liked the first

The ending was fairly weak but still worth playing if you enjoyed the first game!Yes, the curtailed, somewhat disconnected feeling of the ending, and the general level of niggling bugs (mostly fixed in the patch), shows a general level of it being forced to market too early, in time for the Christmas X-Box release.
However, who can't love the bug which allows you to get Hanharr (your pet Wookie) to have a rediculously high STR and INT ;).

Bump for this blast from the past. Couldn't see any other thread.

Loving the game so far, and I normally hate RPG's.

But one thing I can't figure out. In my little character graphic on the main screen there occasionally appears a little blue arrow. What does that mean? It goes away after a few minutes and I never know if I am meant to do something or not when it appears. Can't see anything in the manual about it.

Its NOT the upgrade character level arrow that appears when the XP points go up enough. This is more like a little tiny blue one.

Saber

Maybe they will one day, Bioware is certainly busy at the moment, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, an MMORPG, and a DS game.

Plus they combined with Pandemic, so there is their output, and then Bioware have a good relationship with Obsidian (who made KOTOR2 and NWN2, but they are working on an Aliens RPG now).

Also Jade Empire for the PC has just been released....

But then I assume Lucasarts is in charge of the KOTOR license so they might give it to someone else, or make a different Star Wars RPG.

Is the storyline gripping in this?

Yeah, its more 'interesting' than 'gripping', I am finding. I normally just can't do RPG's but this one is nice and playable, and being in 'Star Wars' land certainly helps. Its very atmospheric and there's nothing like hearing the 'whoop' of the lightsaber and roar of the wookie as you go into battle. :dork:

Its making me want to play on, though, as there are some plot things I want to find out more about and the effort/reward ratio is good and there always seems to be something achievable to do.

I did get badly stuck on the battle with Davik and the bounty hunter as I only had two people in my party and nothing I did seemed to do any attack damage. I had to cheat and switch the game to 'easy' to get past.

Saber

KOTOR is better than KOTOR2 but it is still good.

I would imagine both are pretty cheap by now.
