View Full Version : Digital printing on canvas?

Hi all :)
We're moving soon, and I wanted to do some nice prints onto canvas for the new lounge - only problem is, everywhere looks expensive!!
If I go on ebay, I see loads of prints on canvas, some selling very cheaply, so I'm sure all these sellers aren't paying the costs I'm seeing (e.g. on http://www.photoartistry.co.uk , which is the cheapest I've found)
Anyone know any good/cheap sites!

I know this was ages ago and that things have changed, but did you ever find anywhere cheap?
There are some suggestions in this thread.

I'd suggest trying local shops. I found a framing shop which did canvas prints, they were charging £60 for an A2 stretched on a wooden frame print (be warned as I ordered 2 A3 sizes, but with the extra 2" for wrapping around the frame pushed it into the next price bracket - which was £20 dearer...).
They also treated the prints afterwards. I was very impressed with both prints they were photographs of some artwork my mother made - the result was that they looked like paintings themselves.
Went to another shop in North Wales, small operation - a guy who had got fed up with being charged extortionate prices for prints and lenses. He now does canvas prints for reasonable prices (about an A1 size for £74), and leases out lenses (£5 a day for L grade lenses).

Got any contact details for him? A website or phone number would be good.

They're called Panorama Cymru (http://www.panorama-cymru.com/) (Wales Panorama). When I mentioned £73 it was for a huge panoramic print which probably was the same size as an A1 print, or so I judged. Not sure if he delivers, but check him out, he's a fairly decent bloke. He doesn't treat the prints afterwards though, he did mention that the ink has a 100 or so year's lifetime (bit silly).

Cheers for the responses. I'll check them out. I wanted to do 3 large canvas prints to make up a bigger picture...maybe using rasterbator. I want to mount them on a wall as I think it will look pretty good. Reckon it will work out quite expensive though...

Wow, bit of a blast from the past this thread - just looking to have another done, so a search on "canvas" brought this thread up again!
I've got two up on the lounge walls now, both A1 size, both from ebay sellers. The second one I got is amazing value - frame is deep, picture looks great, and the seller even expertly added to the image to help out, and sent proofs by email. (Adding the last 1/3 onto a rabbit's ear that was out of frame in original shot!).
Before the two in my lounge, I'd bought a canvas print for my parents from ebay and that was dreadful - colours wrong (green instead of black in a black and white picture...) and lies from the seller afterwards, even a second one done for free was still green but the seller insisted it was black  . So I think word of mouth on the sellers is important, having used 3.
Hope I can say this here, the seller my best one came from is called ecpgroup. Very pleased with it indeed. (No connection to them other than I've bought from them once!). A1's are showing as 36.49 delivered at the mo'.

Thanks for the tip, how do they deal with colour macthing though, or do you post-process send them a file and hope their print is pretty close to what you've seen on your screen?
Do they accept TIFFs btw?
I just used ecpgroup for two A2 prints, total cost £50 and they are excellent from my D50....

Hi, did they email you when the prints were dispatched, as I've just ordered an A1 canvas from them.
John
Hi John, yes they did, they were on next day delivery.
The guy isn't the best communciator in the world, it took about a week between me sending him my CD with TIFFs on and him posting them out, but it was all good in the end.

I bought a A0 canvas printed from ECPGroup via eBay and it was exactly as I hope it would be.
I sent them an image of the kids taken on my Nikon D50 and the reproduction of colours was spot on. The image quality is very good, somehow the resolution looked even better than the original, without the up-scaling they used making the image softer. The image is well mounted on the custom sized 45mm deep frame.
Outstanding value and delivered within 4 working days.

I've just looked up ecpgroup on ebay as I have never heard of them and their address is only 200 yards from where I live, I'm just going to take the dogs for a walk and have a look as I think they have a shop just off the main high street.

I keep looking for somewhere that does Canvas Prints, although I am concerened that with the wrap around edge it will cut off vital bits of the pic, Is this the case. Is there an easy way to work out how much of the pic will be on the edge?
Gareth
If you LMK what you need I have a guy on one of my Mobile forums offering this service up to A1 etc ;)

Gareth
With my two Gareth, they were placed centrally on the frame with very little bleed over the edge, I'd imagine it unlikely that anything critival would spill over the edge tbh.
If you want some pics of what I have on the wall let me know?

I had a look in the window tonight, they sell stairlifts as well. They have a couple of easels in the window with various pictures on, there was a black and white one of a young lad and that looked very good.

I have used www.printedvisions.co.uk (http://www.printedvisions.co.uk) after getting link from here and they email you a digitial mock up of your image so you can see what parts of the picture will be wrapped round the side. So if you have anything that you are worried about losing round the edge you can clearly see if it will make it on the front or not.

Hey Chrisio, we seem to be having a bit of trouble getting hold of ECPGroup (Colin P has been waiting for a month for one of his canvases), can you let us know if the guy is still there as you're local :D
If anyone has any of these, any chance of some pics of them on the wall? Want to get a feel for sizes / depth of frames.
Did the ecpgroup print come through?

Yes, I had seen that in the Free magazine that comes around, prices werent anything too special.
I still havent ordered one yet as prices seem quite steep (well steep for someone who is as tight as a ducks ...) for a decent size print.
Was really hoping that ecpgroup would come through, as I like their prices.
Just thought I'd left everyone know, I bought a canvas print from here.

Well, after months of deliberating I finally ordered from here (http://www.mycanvasprints.co.uk/Default.aspx), It was recommended to me by another photographer on Crosby beach. He assured me, he was that pleased with the results, he has ordered a couple more.
Fairly reasonable, a 20" x 34" has come in at £54 delivered. Will let you know what it's like, I am expecting it any day now.
Also someone gave me this Link (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?AID=5463217&PID=582776&mpre=http%3A//cgi.ebay.co.uk/YOUR-PHOTO-to-an-A1-BOX-CANVAS-100-Cotton-23-x33_W0QQitemZ170163602919QQihZ007QQcategoryZ20147QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem) today, V Good feedback and for an A1 canvas, £30 delivered. Might be worth a dabble.
Cheers
