View Full Version : Cats & Dogs - Widescreen - WHEN ???

Hi,

Anybody heard details of when WB will release this to the suppliers, the fullscreen version has been out and available since 16/10, and from what I've heard they've decided they'll see how many 4:3 copies they can move before releasing the WS version.

This is all part of their scheme to convert us all to 4:3 because WS hasn't supposedly taken off in the US as it has here, I guess ?

Well I refuse to play their game and will await the release of the WS version, but any news on this would be welcome. I haven't invested in widescreen kit to then go and buy films in 4:3 despite the fact that the studio think I should.

Cheers

Chris

Definitely out - I ordered mine at TAU :)

Thew two versions were released at the same time. You just need to make sure you order the w/s version.

Gromit/MysteriousJimmy,

There's definitely a supply problem I believe you were lucky that a few were released on the release data 16/10 or before, however since then there's not a copy to be had anywhere.

Play are saying that WB aren't releasing the widescreen version, and the rumour mill on other forums suggests that WB are seeing how high they can push fullscreen sales by holding back the WS version.

Not sure where the truth lies, but such tactics certainly won't force me into buying fullscreen versions of films and I'll just boycott WB if required.

Anybody else out there able to confirm what I'm hearing or a new release date for the WS version ???

Cheers

Chris

Chris, stop complaining and get on with some work :-)

I'm waiting for mine too. It's seems that play are just behind the times as usual as almost all US suppliers have it in stock.

You could just order it from dvdboxoffice, and it's cheaper there too!

Btw, next time I'm back, you need to buy me a beer :-)

I recommend anyone who still has an order with Play to cancel it and order it from *********.

I ordered my copy on Friday and it arrived on Monday morning.

I will carry on using Play, but it just wasn't worth waiting forever to save £1. I will however be using ********* a bit more too.

Mine was shipped by DVD Box Office 3 days ago. No doubt it'll take around another 10 days to reach me unless I got lucky with the shipping route.

Andy,

Looks like the concensus is to change suppliers then, I use DVDBO and futureent as well as play so I guess I'll go for one of these and cancel the order at play.

When are you next back in the UK ??

Cheers

Be warned, FutureEnt have only just got stocks in of C&D widescreen and are completing outstanding orders.
They are sending them in 2 batches... 1 going out tonight and the other later in the week.

Mine is in the tonights pile :D

Looks like stocks are finally appearing: Play appear to have some and mine has been dispatched from DVD Box Office. Perhaps Warners simply couldn't get enough made that quickly, after all, their initial intention was not to issue it at all and it was only finally announced about a fortnight before it was supposed to be released.

Lets just hope that they get sales figures to justify the decision to go wide screen on this one and perhaps we won't have this problem again.

I have it on order from A & B Sound and they currently don't have any in stock. They state it is on "Special Order" meaning they are aiting on stock from the manufacturers and it may take several weeks.

Unfortunately, it is the only title holding up a seven disc order (including Shrek and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, so I can't really cancel it and order elsewhere. I sent them an e-mail asking them how long it may take, but no reply yet. Just have to wait....

Incidentally, in discussing it with one or two friends of mine, we think (and does anyone agree) that WARNERS have made a serious mistake in their read of the DVD market and the buying public, in that most people who own DVD players (and thus many have Home Cinema systems) WANT WIDESCREEN VERSIONS OF FILMS rather than Pan & Scan versions unlike the opposite way round for VHS and think that what works for tape should work for DVD as well. Thus we have the current supply situation with Cats and Dogs and some other films.

Does the assumption:
"Most people want to (mainly) JUST WATCH films on tape -- thus the rental market -- but KEEP films on DVD and thus see and hear them as they were originally intended."
really hold true??

I got mine a few days ago from FutureEnt.com :)

But yeah, I TOTALLY agree with you.

Video = P&S
DVD = Widescreen
