Does it differ much to the first? While it was a fine enough game, it wasn't deserving of any scoresl like those (personally I'd give it 83-85% overall)

Purple 'heavy' pikmin for switches and IIRC White Poisonous pikmin for killing enemies kamikaze style

Control 2 characters at once
2 Player Co-op mode
This is good news. Ive been eagerly waiting for this one:notworthy
US Date seems to have slipped again, so I'm ordering the Japanese version for the missus. Anyone know of an online explanation of the new features for us non Japanese speaking gamers?
Woohoo! Pikmin 2. Was completely addicted to the first one.
Anyone know when it's released? The top link was blocked by my workplace.

Out now in Japan, August in the US (I think)
No idea about a PAL release though.
It arrived, and it's stunning, if you are in doubt about importing there is a crack that turns some text to english, but if you've played the original it's not too hard to work out...

Stunning game, quicker pace, pikmin don't get trapped in scenery an more, good use of two captains, it's a masterstroke.

I'm loving this game - it has everything that made the first game such a beauty, with the added dimensions of new 'min to command.
Fantastic stuff - another instant classic.
We've managed to work out almost everything, except what properties the glove adds (if anything). Awesome game, love the addition of potions to power up the pikmin (or power down the enemines) makes it more puzzle based than combat based....

Only for the quicktime files, try the media player ones.
I was gonna grab the US one but not got time to play any games at the moment, so I used the 10% play discount code to preorder it at play for £27 :D
Hehe, looking forward to this.
DVDSoon have my order.

Does anyone know what the Pikmin 2 e-reader cards which are mentioned in the game previews are about? - do they do anything for the game (and if so will it be in the non-Jap versions?)
In some ways it's better than the original, in other ways it isn't. A slight missed oppurtunity imo, but full of charm nonetheless.

THIS GUY (http://cube.ign.com/articles/540/540272p1.html?fromint=1) thinks he could make a better pikmin 2 + 3 than nintendo, And he thinks Dead or alive is better than Virtual fighter!

Got my copy today. :D
Sent on Tues, so only took 4 days from videogamesplus. Also $5 cheaper than DVDSoon.
Guess who I'll be using for import games from now on. ;)
well, played it till late last night and it's just like the original with "extras". Top stuff. Can't get enough of them Pikmin
I sold my unopened copy.
Took the view that I just won't have time to play much in the coming run up to Christmas due to work :(
I'll hopefully pick it up cheap in the New Year though :)

Splendid stuff. Not a million miles away from the original with just a few twists added but seeing as the original was ace there's no complaining from me.

You don't have to complete the game in 30 days this time. You can spend as much time as you like though you still have to get the fellas to bed at night.

:D Around 12hrs or so to go now, this and the FM demo (doh, originally wrote CM  ) are gonna keep me occupied tomorrow
Easy? Well getting to 10,000 pokos isn't that difficult true. But collecting all 201 treasures and finishing off all 4 areas? Now that's the real challenge...

Bloody good game, loved the first, the only bad thing is the damn caves.
Just opened up the second level, the purple pikmin kiss ass.

Finally completed it yesterday, certainly get more game play out of it than the 1st game  One let down though as soon as you reach 10000 pokos the game ends, I thought there would at least be some kind of boss battle at the end :( Also I didn't unlock the 4th level until I completed the game, is it possible to do it before and if so, how?
Anyone not liking this? I've played WWE Day of Reckoning to death and want to swap it for this with someone.
Got 3 levels open but am struggling to get loads of white pikmin, some of the caves are really hard I reckon.
Think I have 30% of the debt paid.

You're never realistically gonna have loads of white pikmin, don't think I ever reached double figures AFAIK of either them or the purple ones (well I do recall I did on 1 instance on the final floor of a cave but not often). Just make do with what you have and use them wisely ;)

I had 10+ white pikmins once, but lost them because I ran out of time finding them so I'm down to five. :(
Can you go back down into a cave with the white flowers in them to get more white pikmins?

If you've not got every object in the cave then you can revisit the caves as often as you like.

sounds like a good game... but might have to wait til it gets cheaper like pikmin 1 is now :)

You saying you can't if you have?
PS. Arch, I presume you've completed it. how did you unlock the 4th area?
Ron Hill
26-10-2004, 14:23
More Pikmin? Yes please! Bit concerned about Arch's comment about it being as easy as the first though. I suppose having "3+" on the box is the giveaway there! Pass me my rattle. A spoof horror version would be class. Resident Pikmin :D
morleyian
26-10-2004, 15:13
Don't be concerned about it being easy. It's certainly not the hardest of games but you do get a LOT more gameplay out of it then the 1st one but if you enjoyed the 1st you can't go wrong buying the 2nd, a highly recommended purchase IMO :)

The thing that made it for me in the first one was when you were waiting back at the ship as the clock ticked towards end of day and you had two or more ship components on the way back in a carefully organised assault and you just know it's going to be real close to get everything and everyone onboard before day end. Marvellous stuff. Particularly in the way that the pikmin never get flustered at 20 seconds to midnight and you're screaming at the telly. "Hurry up you little ********!" as they trundle some vital component into view at the ship with the last rays of the sun fading and you hurl more Pikmin at them to speed up the transfer. Utterly superb game design! Only flaw it had was it was all over too soon.

Whats the 2 player coop mode like?
Played the first one on GC - liked it alot, but the 30 day time limit killed it for me. Pikmin 2 was hard to get in the UK - fetching daft prices on ebay etc. so finally got this with the new play control on wii. Very impressed with no time limit and the 2 spacemen. Bit unsure about how much I like the caves though. But very original game nothing like it on the other consoles and the sort of level of strategy game that I like.

Do the Wii controls improve the gameplay and work well? Not played the Wii in ages but really wanted Pikmin 2 when I had the GC but couldn't get it so might look at the Wii version.
the wii-mote certainly make it easier to select pikmin, but the use of the 2nd analog on a GC pad isn't as good (you use the nunchuck and down on the wii-mote to do this), but overall its better - you also get it in 16:9, you cannot use a GC pad though.

No, I'm sensible and have a NTSC machine...
Might give it a spin later.
Played Pikmin 2 for the Wii and it is another quality game. I loved the first game but no longer owned a GameCube when Pikmin 2 was released so I'm glad I've finally got the opportunity to play this. The Wii controls work well with the pointer movement being very accurate. But I've only done the first two days so the game hasn't hit me with anything difficult yet. But I think that is about to change...
I've read that this is significantly longer than the first game and that there is no time limit on the number of days. I think I like the idea of the caves being the Pikmin equivalent of dungeons. Essentially though, this is the same great game that the original Pikmin was.
