Watched this on and off last night. How do they manage to get people so self-centred? It made for quite amusing viewing in the end.

That kid was in a sad state at the start, but the whole experience did seem to help him. At the start virtually every sentence was a profanity-littered insult at someone or something, he even blamed society for his crimes. Not wanting to sound like a wooly-liberal but he did seem to have been screwed over by poverty and lack of education and used his offensive manner as a defence mechanism.
By the end of the programme he was coming out of his shell and admitted that he acted as he did purely because he wasn't where he wanted to be in life. I was pretty impressed with his attitude having earned a few quid after spending the afternoon cleaning... I hope he sticks with it.
