View Full Version : NBA - The Playoffs 2004
Anyone else into Basketball??
The NBA is entering the playoff stage and here are the matches.
Western Conference
Minnesota Timberwolves vs Denver Nuggets
Los Angeles Lakers vs Houston Rockets
San Antonio Spurs vs Memphis Grizzlies
Sacramento Kings vs Dallas Mavericks
Eastern Conference
Indiana Pacers vs Boston Celtics
New Jersey Nets vs New York Knicks
Detroit Pistons vs Milwaukee Bucks
Miani Heat vs New Orleans Hornets
Games have a best of 7 series.
The Western Conference obviously has the better matchups so it will be intresting who goes through as almost anyone can beat anyone.
The East is a little more clear cut with Indiana clear favourites to win the Conference, but i think Detroit will push them hard.
You can't bet against the Lakers as they have some great players, ie, Shaq, Bryant so they are my tip to win it.
Oh and it all starts Saturday :D
Is it 7 games for all the rounds?
And to answer my own question yes it is, suprised as the first few rounds of the baseball playoffs are best of 5. 7's better IMO in that the best teams should come through, with no freak results that a shorter series sometimes throw's up.

Well I've backed Sacramento Kings each way @ 5/1. I don't fancy the lakers at evens, 11/10. I know you weren't talking from a betting point of view but it's how I view most sporting events
Minnesota have the best record in the Western Conference so they have a be a good bet.
Im a NY Knicks fan but i cant see us getting past NJ

missed most of this season, and the all star game (working when its on, and lack of motivation) will tune in to the Playoffs tho.
Hoping for a Lakers win meself, whatever the odds are :p

Sacramento were strolling the western until a few weeks back. I'm not entirely sure as to what's gone wrong but they had alot of road games to end the divisional season. They also trounced the lakers recently  I backed them back in Feb and am just hoping they've been taking it easy recently :suspect:
I just seen the Pacers @ 12/1 not a bad bet at all!!!
Between Sacramento and the Lakers. No one else comes close, especially in the Eastern Conference.
If Dallas gets a player who can play defense then they may feature also, but really its a two horse race and Sacramento also seems to fluff it so i'll go with the Lakers.....now wheres that Zzzzzz smilie :p
The league needs a big shake up though, some big trades etc. I'm getting bored with the dominance of the lakers.
The only thing which has kept me watching this season is Carmelo Anthony and Lebron.
It used to be 5 games kjn6371, but then the Lakers were struggling one year (cant remember if it was two or three seasons back) so they changed the rules :nono:
At least us Knicks fans get to cheer them on in the playoffs for once, not that I'll last more than 5 games. I'll be cheering for the TWolves after then.
Thank's for the info Gordon.

If four Hall of Fame players plus one Hall of Fame coach doesn't equal an NBA title in a season when there are zero dominant teams, then the Atlanta Braves and Buffalo Bills have company. Even in a sports landscape pockmarked with flops, the underachievement would be unmatched.
In his April 16 LA Times column, on what the Lakers' failure to win the NBA title this season would mean.
Saturdays Results :
Indiana 104 - 88 Boston
New Jersey 107 - 83 New York
San Antonio 98 - 74 Memphis
LA Lakers 72 - 71 Houston
No suprises there at all, but the Lakers struggled to get the win.
Sundays results :
Detroit 108 - 82 Milwaulkee
Sacramento 116 - 105 Dallas
Miami 81 - 79 New Orleans
Minnesota 106 - 92 Denver

I don't think you can bet against San Antonio at the moment.
They're the defending champs, they're playing well, TD's back and healthy, and the rest of the team are all contributing.
Whoever wins the second round series between the Spurs and the Lakers will win the championships.
But then I would say that being a Spurs fan.

Guess I'm being a bit too generous, wonder if we can throw in the white flag now, before it gets really ugly

and if anyone fancies watching Lakers get beaten, 8.30 sky sports extra!
Boston 75 Indiana 90 (Indiana wins best-of-seven series 4-0)
New York 94 New Jersey 100 (New Jersey wins 4-0)
Houston 88 LA Lakers 92 (LA Lakers lead 3-1)
Memphis 97 San Antonio 110 (San Antonio wins 4-0)
Knicks couldn't even pull one win out
Pistons slapped Lakers asses last night!
They're gonna win it!
At the end of the day this team is teaching the Lakers a lesson
Its been a while since we've seen a defence win an NBA title so hopefully Detroit will go all the way and signal the end of the 'All star' Lakers.
I lost interest a little last season so to see a Journeyman like Billups step up like he has is quite spectacular.
Well done to the Detroit Pistons for winning the 2004 Finals.
